Furniture moving from Riyadh to the UAE with Saudi Express is a complete home service: a carpenter dismantles your furniture in Riyadh, a crew wraps it, numbers it and writes the inventory, a closed truck takes it through Al Batha to Al Ghuwaifat, and we deliver and reassemble it in your flat or villa in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Al Ain. The trip normally takes 3 to 5 days from loading, furniture moving starts from SAR 690 and a full apartment from SAR 2,300. Book a survey or ask about your home on 0560533140 by call or WhatsApp.
- Bedroom: from SAR 870 with dismantling, packing and reassembly
- Full apartment: from SAR 2,300 on a dedicated dyna
- Villa: from SAR 5,100 on a closed trailer
- Timing: 3 to 5 days between loading in Riyadh and reassembly in the UAE
- Customs: used furniture is exempt for first-time residents if it arrives within 6 months
- Reassembly: a carpenter in the UAE refits beds, wardrobes and kitchens
Moving a family from Riyadh to the UAE is not an ordinary shipment. There are children who want their own beds on the first night, a kitchen built for one particular wall, and a majlis the household treasures. So this guide is about the home alone: how we price it, how we dismantle and wrap it, what the customs rules say about used furniture, and how it is set up in the new place. Cargo, parcels and trade shipments are covered in our guide for the shipping company from Riyadh to the UAE.
Furniture moving prices by home size
Moving furniture from Riyadh to the UAE starts from SAR 870 for a bedroom, SAR 2,300 for a full apartment and SAR 5,100 for a villa, including dismantling, packing, loading, transport, clearance and delivery with reassembly.
Your real price comes after the survey, because two flats with the same number of rooms can differ in volume by double: one has light flat-pack furniture, the other solid-wood wardrobes, a bookcase and a full majlis. We usually ask for a short video call walking through the rooms, or photos of each room from two angles, and then send the price in writing on WhatsApp with what it includes.
Starting prices by home size:
| Home size | Included | Starts from (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| One bedroom | Bed, wardrobe, dresser and the room’s boxes | 870 |
| A few pieces | Several household items with basic wrapping | 690 |
| Full apartment | Two or three bedrooms, living room and kitchen on a dedicated dyna | 2,300 |
| Villa | Several floors on a full closed trailer | 5,100 |
| Dismantling & reassembly | A carpenter in Riyadh and one in the UAE | 280 |
| Extra packing materials | Blankets, stretch film, bubble wrap, corners, boxes | 415 |
| Short-term storage | If the new home is not ready | Ask for the price by call or WhatsApp |
Single-item prices to the UAE
If you are moving a few items rather than the whole home, each one is priced on a shared truck: a box from SAR 45, a fridge or washing machine from SAR 320, a wardrobe from SAR 650 and an Arabic majlis from SAR 1,300.
This suits people who sold most of their furniture in Riyadh and kept what matters, or who will live in a furnished flat in Dubai and only want their desk, books and appliances. Shared transport means your items travel with other customers’ loads and may wait a day or two for the truck to fill, but it costs much less.
| Item | Preparation | Starts from (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Standard box | Strong sealed, numbered carton | 45 |
| 65-inch TV | Original box or rigid carton, upright | 185 |
| Split AC unit | Technician removes both units and caps pipes | 280 |
| Fridge or washer | Fully dried, doors and drum secured | 320 |
| Master bed with mattress | Base dismantled, mattress in a sealed bag | 550 |
| Four-door wardrobe | Doors removed, panels wrapped in blankets | 650 |
| Dining table & six chairs | Legs off, top protected with board | 650 |
| Seven-seat sofa | Fabric covers then stretch film | 1,020 |
| Nine-piece Arabic majlis | Cushions and bases wrapped separately | 1,300 |
A single employee’s or student’s belongings
Someone moving alone to the UAE for work or study rarely needs a dedicated truck. A bed, a desk, a chair and around twenty boxes of clothes, books and devices can go on a shared load for far less than a full home. Our advice: use boxes of similar size so they stack well, keep electronics in your suitcase or in a padded box marked fragile, and send us a short list with the number of boxes and their rough weight for an accurate price.
How long does a home move from Riyadh to the UAE take?
A furniture move from Riyadh to the UAE takes 3 to 5 days from the start of loading to reassembly in the new home: a day to dismantle and pack, one to two days on the road and at the border, and a day to deliver and refit.
We spread the work over days so nothing is rushed. A mid-size home can be dismantled and wrapped in a single day with a full crew; a large villa may need two. After loading the truck heads east and then to Al Batha, where it may wait hours or a day depending on traffic at the crossing, before passing Al Ghuwaifat and entering the emirate.
| Day | What happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Days before | Video survey, pricing and booking | Prepare passport, visa and Emirates ID copies |
| Day one | Dismantling, wrapping, numbering, inventory | Set aside what travels in your suitcase |
| Day two | Loading, sealing the truck, departure | Check and sign the inventory |
| Days three to four | Export at Al Batha, import at Al Ghuwaifat | Answer the broker if anything is needed |
| Day four or five | Unloading and reassembly in the UAE | Book the lift and building permit |
The survey and inventory: the step that decides everything
The survey decides the truck size, crew size, amount of packing material and price, and the numbered inventory is the document customs relies on and you rely on at delivery.
During the survey we ask questions that look small but save a whole day: does the building lift fit the wardrobe? Is the villa staircase narrow and internal or outside? Is the kitchen fixed to the wall? Are there items you will sell or donate? Then we write the inventory item by item, “brown wooden master bed, three panels and mattress”, never a vague line like “household goods”, because UAE customs asks for a detailed packing list.
Photograph every valuable item before it is wrapped, and the wardrobe and bed before dismantling. The photos help the carpenter in the UAE refit them and settle any question about condition.
Dismantling by a carpenter, not a porter
Furniture taken apart by a carpenter arrives intact and goes back together as it was; forcing it apart breaks hinges and strips screws out of pressed board, which is why a carpenter dismantles in Riyadh and another reassembles in the UAE.
Most furniture in Riyadh homes today is MDF or chipboard, and these materials do not survive rough handling twice. A carpenter knows where the hidden screws are in drawer units, removes wardrobe doors before the carcass, and puts each item’s screws in a small labelled bag taped to it. Self-assembly furniture from global flat-pack brands comes apart in reverse order of its manual, which we keep or photograph if you still have it.
- Beds: base and headboard dismantled, panels wrapped together, mattress in a sealed plastic bag.
- Wardrobes: doors and drawers first; mirrors wrapped on their own in bubble wrap and board.
- Tables: legs removed, glass tops placed in a rigid cardboard frame.
- Shelving and wall units: taken down carefully, with wall holes filled if you ask.
Wrapping each item the way it needs
Every material in your home has its own wrapping method: wood in blankets then stretch film, glass in bubble wrap and corners, fabrics in dust covers, appliances in their boxes or foam, and very fragile pieces in a wooden crate.

The road from Riyadh to the UAE is a long desert run; summer heat inside even a closed truck is high and the vibration goes on for hours. So we never put stretch film straight onto wood, because plastic traps heat and moisture against the finish and leaves marks. The blanket goes on first and the film over it. Natural leather is covered with breathable fabric.
| Material | Wrapping | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Polished or painted wood | Fabric blanket then stretch film | Protects the finish from scratches and heat |
| Glass and mirrors | Bubble wrap, corners, cardboard frame | Prevents breakage from knocks |
| Sofas and fabrics | Sealed fabric or nylon cover | Keeps out dust and stains |
| Natural leather | Breathable cloth | Stops cracking from trapped heat |
| Crockery and sets | Paper per piece in divided boxes | Pieces do not rub together |
| Antiques and chandeliers | Padded wooden crate | Full protection for fragile items |
Kitchens, AC units and appliances
An aluminium or wooden kitchen is removed by a technician who numbers every door and shelf; a split AC needs a technician to pump the gas into the outdoor unit before removal; and fridges and washers are emptied and dried a day before loading.
The kitchen is the hardest item in the house because it was built to fit one wall. Before moving it, ask whether the new kitchen in the UAE has similar dimensions; if it is very different, adapting the old one may cost more than it is worth. If you do move it, we take down the wall cabinets, then the base units, and protect a marble or granite top with a timber frame, because stone snaps in the middle when carried flat without support.
The AC is a technical job, not a loading one: the technician runs the unit and closes the outdoor valves so the gas collects there, then disconnects the pipes and seals their ends against dust. In the UAE, refitting should be done by a technician who knows the building, because many Dubai towers use central cooling and do not allow split units on the façade, so ask building management before you ship your AC units.
Large TVs always travel upright, and a fridge should not be switched on as soon as it arrives; leave it standing a few hours so the oil and gas settle in the compressor.
Loading and the road from Riyadh via Al Batha
Furniture is loaded into a closed truck in a fixed order: heavy items low and forward, then boxes, then light pieces, with each row strapped, and the truck heads east past Al-Ahsa to Al Batha and on to Al Ghuwaifat.
Load planning is a small science of its own. The fridge, washer and dismantled wardrobes go on the floor against the front wall, mattresses act as dividers between rows, heavy boxes sit under light ones, and no gap is left for pieces to shift over bumps. What you need first on arrival, such as the children’s beds and kitchen boxes, goes in last so it comes out first in the UAE.
The truck is closed in front of you and photographed, and its number is written on the inventory. Route details, truck types and the difference between shared and dedicated loads are on our shipping to the UAE page.
Customs on used furniture in the UAE
Used furniture enters the UAE duty-free as personal effects of someone moving to reside for the first time or a returning citizen, provided it is for personal use and arrives within six months of its owner, with the required papers.
The exemption comes from the GCC Common Customs Law. It does not cover vehicles, and it does not cover new goods in commercial quantities. If you bought brand-new furniture before leaving and it is still boxed, keep the invoice, as customs may treat it as new goods. The safe approach is that the load really is your used household furniture, listed honestly.
Papers UAE customs asks for
- Passport copy.
- UAE residence visa copy, or the employment visa with entry stamp if residence is not yet issued.
- Emirates ID copy or its application.
- A detailed English packing list, which serves as the inventory.
- An authorisation letter for the customs broker.
On the Riyadh side we need a copy of your Saudi ID or iqama to file the export declaration. You do not need to go to the border; the broker handles it under your authorisation.
What cannot travel with your furniture?
Nothing flammable travels with household goods, nor gas cylinders even when empty, weapons, perishable food, cash, gold or original documents; medicines go only in personal quantities with their prescription.
Watch for what a home collects without you noticing: old paint tins in the store room, a barbecue gas bottle on the roof, a small camping gas canister. These send a truck back from the border if found, so we check for them with you before packing.
Air freight for the first week’s suitcases
Air freight does not suit furniture, but it suits first-week suitcases, documents and small devices: they fly from King Khalid Airport to Dubai or Abu Dhabi in 1 to 3 days and are charged by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher.

The usual scenario: the husband starts work in Dubai in a few days and the furniture will not be set up before the weekend. We fly two or three suitcases with work clothes, the children’s essentials and the office laptop, and the rest goes by road. Volumetric weight is usually the product of the dimensions in centimetres divided by 6000, so a large light suitcase may be charged on size rather than weight. More on our air freight page; ask for suitcase air prices by call or WhatsApp.
Moving the family car with the furniture
The family car does not go inside the furniture truck; it travels on a car carrier from SAR 1,300, timed close to the furniture so both arrive together, after the export certificate is issued by Saudi traffic authorities.

Before shipping it, check that your emirate will register it: Dubai and Abu Dhabi accept used cars up to 10 years from manufacture, with 5% customs duty and 5% VAT, because the personal-effects exemption does not extend to vehicles. Carriers and paperwork are on our car shipping page.
Unloading and reassembly in the UAE
On arrival the furniture is unloaded by inventory number into the rooms you choose, the carpenter refits beds, wardrobes and tables, and all packing material leaves with us.

Residential towers in Dubai, in areas such as the Marina, JLT and Business Bay, usually require a move-in permit from building management, a timed service-lift booking and sometimes an insurance certificate from the moving company. Ask management for these as soon as you get the keys and send them to us, because a truck that arrives without a permit waits in the street. Villas in Al Ain, MBZ City or Sharjah are easier; a clear spot for the truck to park is enough.
Plan the layout before arrival: sketch or photograph the new floor plan, label each door with the room name, and give the crew leader a list such as “children’s room: beds 4 and 5, wardrobe 7”. That way everything lands in the right place the first time.
Insuring your furniture: what it covers and excludes
Furniture insurance usually covers damage from a truck accident, fire or a drop during loading and unloading; it usually does not cover boxes the owner packed, defects that existed before the move, or the natural ageing of old pieces.
If your home has high-value items such as antiques, paintings or imported furniture, ask for shipment insurance and list each piece’s value on a separate sheet before loading, because compensation is based on the declared value rather than a later estimate. We photograph valuable items with you before and after wrapping and note their condition on the inventory, such as an old scratch on a table or a small chip in a frame. This protects both sides and keeps any claim clear and quick. Ask for the insurance price by call or WhatsApp, as it depends on the value you are moving.
Moving a bride’s trousseau and wedding items to the UAE
A bride’s trousseau travels from Riyadh to the UAE like household furniture, with extra care for new pieces, linens and tableware, and with a detailed inventory because most of it is new and customs may ask about it.
Many Riyadh families furnish a daughter who is marrying into the UAE with a bedroom set, linens, serving sets and small appliances. Since most of these are new, keep the invoices with the shipping papers, as customs distinguishes exempt used furniture from new goods. We wrap sets and crystal piece by piece, seal linens in bags against dust, and deliver the bedroom assembled in the marital home in Dubai, Al Ain or elsewhere.
Short-term storage if the new home is not ready
If your UAE home is not ready when you leave the Riyadh one, the furniture is stored wrapped in a Riyadh warehouse until shipping day, then loaded as it is with no re-wrapping.
It happens often: the Riyadh lease ends at the end of the month and the Dubai flat is handed over two weeks later. Instead of paying an extra month’s rent in Riyadh, we move the furniture out on time, store it, and ship it once you have the keys. Details on our furniture storage page.
From Riyadh districts to every emirate
We dismantle furniture in any Riyadh district and reassemble it in any emirate: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, as well as Al Ain.
- Northern villa districts: Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Yasmin, An Narjis, Al Arid; multi-floor villas with internal stairs get a larger crew.
- Eastern and central flats: Ar Rawdah, Qurtubah, Al Munsiyah, Al Malaz, As Sulimaniyah, Al Olaya; buildings with small lifts where large pieces are dismantled inside the flat.
- West and south: Laban, As Suwaidi, Irqah, Ash Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Hazm, Badr.
- Outside Riyadh: Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Muzahmiyah, Ad Dilam.
In the UAE most families arriving from Riyadh head to Dubai (Al Barsha, the Marina, Nad Al Hamar, Mirdif, Dubailand), Abu Dhabi (Khalifa City, Al Reem, MBZ City, Al Raha) or Sharjah (Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Al Tay). If you are moving from Jeddah or another city, see furniture moving from Jeddah to the UAE, and the all-cities guide to shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
Mistakes that cost families time and money
The costliest mistakes are booking at the last minute, moving things you will not use, hiding prohibited items in boxes and forgetting the building permit in the UAE.
- Booking two days before you fly: trucks fill up in holiday seasons, so book at least a week ahead.
- Moving everything: old furniture you will replace in the UAE takes paid space; sell or donate it in Riyadh.
- Unlabelled boxes: write the room name and a short contents note on every box.
- A vague inventory: “household goods” slows customs; a detailed list speeds release.
- Switching the fridge on at once: leave it upright for hours first.
- Ignoring the tower permit: the truck waits in the street and the reassembly day is lost.
