Saudi Express is a shipping company from Saudi Arabia to Qatar that moves whole homes, cars, parcels and commercial goods by road in closed trucks, through the Saudi Salwa crossing and then Qatar’s Abu Samra crossing, the only land border between the two countries. We collect from any city in the Kingdom, dismantle, pack, inventory and load, and follow customs clearance until the shipment reaches your home in Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah or any Qatari municipality, where we unload and reassemble. A road shipment usually arrives within 1 to 3 days from Al-Ahsa and Dammam and within 2 to 4 days from Riyadh, and small parcels start from SAR 92. Bookings and questions: call or WhatsApp 0560533140.

How does a shipment get from Saudi Arabia to Qatar?
A shipment reaches Qatar from Saudi Arabia by road through the Salwa crossing south-east of Al-Ahsa, then into Qatar’s Abu Samra crossing, and from there north to Doha and the other municipalities. Qatar’s only land border is with the Kingdom, so every truck arriving by road from the Gulf passes through this point, which is why preparing the papers well before reaching it is the key to a fast shipment.
From most Saudi cities the road runs through Al-Ahsa. A Riyadh load heads east to Hofuf and then Salwa, a Dammam or Khobar load drops south via Abqaiq or the Al-Ahsa road, and loads from the west, Qassim and the south reach Riyadh first and then follow the same road. After Abu Samra the distance to Doha is relatively short, so the truck reaches the Qatari capital a few hours after crossing.
Because there is a single crossing, congestion there affects every shipment at once. Before school holidays and Eid, and during major events in Doha, traveller and truck traffic rises. So we set the loading date with you so the truck reaches Salwa at a quieter time where possible, and we send the customs declaration ahead so formalities do not start from scratch at the border.
This road route is the backbone, but not the only option: urgent shipments fly to Hamad International Airport, and large commercial containers can go by sea to Hamad Port. Service details for this route are on our shipping to Qatar page.
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Shipping prices from Saudi Arabia to Qatar start from SAR 92 for a small parcel, SAR 370 for a fridge, SAR 1,480 for a bedroom, SAR 3,240 for a three-bedroom home and SAR 2,320 for a car. What you finally pay is set by how much you ship, which truck carries it, where it is loaded and which Qatari municipality receives it.
For a full home move we work out the total volume in cubic metres after the survey, then add what special pieces need: a kitchen to dismantle, air conditioners, antiques that need wooden crates, or a piano or heavy safe. For single items we price each piece by its size and weight, which suits anyone sending just a fridge, a washing machine and a few boxes to family or to a new home.
The road affects the price as well. A load from Al-Ahsa or Dammam is close to Salwa, while one from Jeddah or Tabuk crosses the entire Kingdom, adding fuel and days. Truck type changes the cost too: a private truck for you alone, or space in a shared truck that stops at several addresses in Doha.
An example of how these factors play out: a family moving from a flat in Hofuf to a flat in Al Wakrah, with relatively little furniture, needs only space on a shared truck arriving in a day or two. Another family moving a villa from Jeddah to Al Rayyan, with a large kitchen, chandeliers and antiques, needs a private trailer, wooden crates and more days on the road. Both get the same service, but volume, distance and special pieces make the difference in price.

Shipping times from Saudi cities to Qatar
Road shipping from Saudi Arabia to Qatar takes one to three days from Al-Ahsa, Dammam and Khobar, two to four days from Riyadh, three to five days from Qassim, and four to seven days from Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah. This table breaks the time down by loading city:
| Loading city | Road to Salwa | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Al-Ahsa (Hofuf, Mubarraz, Al Uyun) | straight south to Salwa | 1 to 2 days |
| Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail | via Abqaiq or Al-Ahsa | 1 to 3 days |
| Riyadh, Al Kharj, Diriyah | via Hofuf, then Salwa | 2 to 4 days |
| Buraydah, Unaizah, Ar Rass, Hail | via Riyadh, then Al-Ahsa | 3 to 5 days |
| Jeddah, Makkah, Taif | via Riyadh, then Al-Ahsa | 4 to 7 days |
| Madinah, Yanbu | via Qassim and Riyadh | 4 to 7 days |
| Tabuk, Al Jouf | through Hail or Madinah and on via Riyadh | 6 to 8 days |
| Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran | through Wadi Al-Dawasir or Riyadh | 5 to 8 days |
Times in the table are for a private truck from loading day; a shared truck may take a day or two longer to fill. Each city has its own page: shipping from Al-Ahsa to Qatar, shipping from Riyadh to Qatar, shipping from Jeddah to Qatar, shipping from Qassim to Qatar, shipping from Makkah to Qatar and shipping from Madinah to Qatar.
We collect from every district of the big cities: in Riyadh from Al Narjis, Al Arid, Qurtubah, Al Malaz and Al Suwaidi; in Jeddah from Obhur, Al Marwah, Al Salamah and Al Naeem; in the Eastern Province from North Khobar, Al Jalawiyah and Al Aziziyah in Khobar; and in Al-Ahsa from Hofuf, Mubarraz and the surrounding villages. Smaller cities such as Taif, Yanbu, Hafar Al-Batin and Bisha are covered too, by prior arrangement.
Private or shared truck to Qatar?
A private truck is booked for your belongings alone and leaves on your day; a shared truck carries your things alongside other shipments and leaves when full. Private suits a whole house, villa or office, or anyone with a fixed handover date in Qatar. Shared suits a room, some appliances or boxes, when you can wait a day or two.
In a shared truck each customer’s belongings are separated with boards and covers, every piece carries its owner’s name and number, and the truck unloads at each address in order. In a private truck the whole box is yours, so loading follows the rooms of the new home and the truck unloads once at your door.
Moving a whole home from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
A full home move from Saudi Arabia to Qatar starts from SAR 3,240 for a three-bedroom home and includes a dismantling and packing crew, a closed truck, clearance at Salwa and Abu Samra, and unloading and reassembly in Qatar. We start with a survey of the home in person or by video call and write a list of everything that will ship and everything that stays, then set the loading day.

On loading day the crew works room by room. In the living room and majlis, tables are dismantled and sofas wrapped in fabric and then blankets, while decorative pieces such as indoor fountains and large vases are emptied of water and pebbles and wrapped in foam before going into cartons or crates. In bedrooms, the bed and wardrobe are taken apart and mirrors and glass are wrapped separately. In the kitchen, cupboards are emptied and dishes wrapped one by one, then units are dismantled if they are moving.
Every carton carries a number and a room name, and every large piece a label with its inventory number. This makes unloading in Qatar fast and orderly: the crew knows box 37 goes to the children’s room and wardrobe panels 12 to 19 go up in the main bedroom. You check the list with the crew at delivery and note any remark before signing.
Appliances and air conditioners
The fridge is emptied, switched off and dried a day before loading, then wrapped and shipped upright. The washing-machine drum is secured, and the TV screen goes upright in a reinforced carton, never flat. Air conditioners are removed by a technician after the gas is recovered, and we wrap them in cardboard and a blanket. Electrical fitting of the units in Qatar needs a local technician, which we can arrange if you wish.
Antiques and fragile pieces: when do you need a wooden crate?
Valuable fragile pieces need a wooden crate built to size when they are heavy, delicate or irreplaceable: a crystal chandelier, a large oil painting, a gilded mirror, a statue or a piece of marble. Cardboard and blankets protect against scratches, but a wooden crate protects against pressure and knocks on a long road.

The carpenter builds the crate after measuring the piece, lines it with foam, fixes the piece so it cannot move inside, then closes it with screws rather than nails so it can be opened easily in Qatar without jarring. The crate is marked with its upright direction and loaded near the front wall of the truck, away from the doors, with light items rather than heavy ones packed around it.
A large TV, a glass dining table or tall mirrors may only need purpose-made cartons with reinforced corners if their original boxes are gone. We suggest what suits each piece after seeing it; not everything needs a wooden crate, and it makes little sense to save the cost of a crate on a piece worth many times as much.
Shipping cars and motorbikes to Qatar
We ship cars from Saudi Arabia to Qatar in closed carriers from SAR 2,320, and motorbikes secured inside a closed box from SAR 1,850. The car is covered and strapped by its wheels, and its journey takes about as long as the furniture truck. Our car shipping page explains carrier types and loading.

Rules for importing a used car into Qatar
Qatar is one of the strictest Gulf states on the age of imported cars: light vehicles may be no more than five years old from their manufacture date, and heavy vehicles up to ten. Customs duty is about 5% of the value including freight and insurance; the used car is then inspected at a FAHES technical inspection centre, insured locally and registered with the Traffic Department. Registering it in your name normally requires a valid Qatar ID.
That is why the first thing we ask about is the car’s build year. If it is older than the limit, the more economical choice is to sell it in the Kingdom and buy a car in Qatar, rather than pay to ship it and then get stuck at registration. If it is within the limit, we prepare with you before shipping: transferring ownership to your name if needed, paying fines and getting the export certificate from the traffic department.
If you will drive across yourself
Driving a Saudi car into Qatar through Salwa is possible with the original valid registration card, your driving licence, an external authorization from the owner through Absher if you are driving someone else’s car, and insurance covering Qatar. This is a temporary crossing and does not replace import procedures if you will live there and register the car. Planning to take the car on to a country that requires a customs pass for temporary entry? Our triptyque page explains it.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Qatar suits urgent, light and valuable items: camera equipment for an event in Doha, official papers, electronics, gifts or exhibition samples. We fly from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam airports to Hamad International Airport, and the shipment usually reaches your address within two to four days. Details are on our air freight page.

Airlines charge on the higher of real weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is the three box dimensions in centimetres multiplied together, then divided by 6,000, so an equipment case of 70 × 45 × 40 cm has a volumetric weight of about 21 kg. Air therefore pays off for dense items such as equipment and paperwork and gets expensive for puffy ones such as cushions and sofas. Rates move with weight and flight schedules; ask for the price by call or WhatsApp.
Before handing over to the airline we review the contents with you: loose lithium batteries have special rules, perfume and liquids are limited, and flammable materials are banned. Camera gear and devices are packed in their hard cases where available, or in cartons with foam filling every gap.
Shipping goods and parcels to Qatar
We ship commercial goods from Saudi Arabia to Qatar in consolidated loads from SAR 740 for up to 50 kg, in a full truck for larger volumes, or in sea containers to Hamad Port for very large quantities. This suits suppliers, factories and online stores selling to the Qatari market.
Goods need a commercial invoice, a certificate of origin and a packing list, and we arrange clearance at Abu Samra and delivery to the customer’s warehouse in the Industrial Area, Mesaieed or any address they name. Food products and dates need their health certificates, and electrical goods need specification conformity.
Sea freight to Hamad Port
Companies shipping large quantities can move goods in containers from King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Hamad Port south of Doha. It is slower than road and needs clearance at both ports, but it cuts the cost when goods are measured in tonnes, and suits building materials, equipment and seasonal stock stored before distribution. Container details are on our sea freight page.
Personal parcels start from SAR 92 for a small parcel: a gift for relatives in Al Rayyan, books for a student in Education City, or things left behind after a move. Tell us what is inside, roughly what it is worth, and who receives it in Qatar with a mobile number and address; it goes out with the next truck.
Moving offices, showrooms and equipment to Qatar
We move company offices and showrooms from the Kingdom to Qatar with a plan that keeps downtime short: we dismantle and pack on the last working day, the truck crosses over the weekend, and we unload and arrange before the next week begins. Every desk, chair and cabinet carries a number on the new floor plan, and computers, servers and printers are packed in reinforced cartons with foam padding.
In showrooms we take care with glass shelving and lit display units, dismantling them and wrapping the glass separately, with lighting secured in small cartons. We suggest the company appoints one person to coordinate with us, who knows the layout, holds the keys and signs the list; a single decision-maker saves a lot of time on unloading day.
How we protect your shipment all the way to Doha
We protect the shipment from your home to Doha with packing suited to each piece, tight loading that stops movement, and a closed box that is locked and opened only for official inspection. Heavy items go low, fragile ones away from the doors, and straps hold the load against the box walls.
You can insure the shipment for a value you estimate for your belongings, and before loading we explain the limits of cover and how long you have to report any remark. On delivery in Qatar, open the boxes holding valuable pieces with the crew present, and write your note on the list before signing.
Dates, food and refrigerated shipping to Qatar
Saudi dates are among the most common gifts sent to family and friends in Qatar, and they ship in personal quantities with parcels if they are packed and sealed. Commercial quantities need a health certificate and certificate of origin, and heat-sensitive products such as soft dates, cheese and sweets need a refrigerated truck, especially in summer. We set refrigerated prices by quantity and date, so ask for the price by call or WhatsApp.
New appliances you buy in the Kingdom for your Qatar home ship with their invoice and are listed as new. That does not necessarily mean duty on them, but it spares you questions at inspection and proves their value if you need insurance.
Documents for shipping to Qatar and clearance at Abu Samra
For personal shipping to Qatar the papers are your ID or iqama, the recipient’s Qatar ID or passport with visa, and a numbered, detailed inventory. Our team writes the customs declaration and works with the clearing agent at Abu Samra.
- Furniture and belongings: ID or iqama, recipient details and address, and a detailed inventory in Arabic and English.
- Car: original registration card, the owner’s ID, export certificate, paid fines and proof of the build year.
- Goods: an invoice, an origin certificate, a weighed packing list, the company’s registration, and food or appliance certificates where relevant.
- Parcels: a description of the contents, approximate value and recipient details.
Inspection at Abu Samra may be by X-ray or by opening some boxes. An accurate list is the fastest way through: “Box 22: children’s books and toys” is checked in a minute, while “Box 22: items” invites opening and searching. New items in their boxes we list as they are, with the invoice attached if you have it.
Customs exemption for personal belongings in Qatar
Used household items may be exempt from customs duty in Qatar for people moving there to live for the first time if they meet the conditions, and vehicles are excluded from this exemption. The general Gulf rule is that personal effects and used furniture of returning citizens and new residents are exempt, as long as they are for personal use and not for trade.
What takes a shipment out of this exemption is anything that looks commercial: ten identical appliances in their boxes, large quantities of one item, or goods with recent purchase invoices. So we advise a clear separation between your household belongings and any goods you want to send, each with its own declaration.
What cannot enter Qatar: prohibited and restricted items
Flammable and pressurised materials never go in our trucks to Qatar, and neither do weapons or replicas, narcotics, or medicines lacking a prescription or in trade quantities. Some categories are allowed with restrictions, needing a permit, an invoice or a limited quantity:
- Gas cylinders even when empty, fuel, paints, solvents and pesticides.
- Fresh or frozen food that can spoil, and plants, seeds or soil.
- Drones and wireless equipment that lack approval or a permit.
- Printed and other material that breaches regulations or public decency.
- Damaged loose batteries and appliances that leak fluids.
- Cash, gold, jewellery and original documents, which travel in your hand luggage.
Municipalities and areas we deliver to in Qatar
We deliver shipments from Saudi Arabia to all eight Qatari municipalities: Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Umm Salal, Al Daayen, Al Shahaniya and Al Shamal. The truck reaches Doha a few hours after clearing Abu Samra.

Towers and gated compounds in Doha and Lusail usually require an access permit and a service-lift booking, so we ask you to arrange both two days before arrival. For villas we check the street width and where the truck can park before unloading.
Shipping belongings for new residents and students in Qatar
Many people moving from the Kingdom to Qatar start life there in temporary housing or a furnished flat and do not need a whole home moved in the first week. For them we suggest shipping in two stages: a small first batch of clothes, personal devices and papers, by air or on a shared truck, then the full furniture once they receive their permanent home.
Students at Education City or Qatari universities usually need a few boxes and suitcases, a desk and a chair, which suit parcel and shared freight from SAR 92. We only need the name of the student housing and the student’s number or mobile, and we deliver to the housing gate or the room itself, depending on the institution’s rules.

Mistakes that delay a shipment at Salwa
Most delays at the Qatari border come from small mistakes before loading, and they are easy to avoid if you know them in advance:
- Incomplete recipient details: a name without a Qatar ID number, or a phone that does not answer, holds up delivery after crossing.
- Unlisted new items: a new appliance in its box that is not on the list opens the door to questions and inspection.
- A car over the age limit: it ships and then cannot be registered, so check the build year first.
- Banned items among belongings: a tin of pesticide or a small gas canister in a kitchen box can stop the whole truck.
- Loading at peak season without booking early: before Eid and holidays the crossing is crowded and trucks fill up.
Tips before shipping to Qatar
- Check your car’s build year before booking; Qatar’s limit is five years for light vehicles.
- Sort your furniture and do not ship what will not suit the new home’s space.
- Request the building or compound permit in Doha before the truck arrives.
- Keep your personal belongings separate from any goods, each with its own list.
- Carry gold, passports, original papers and daily medicines with you.
- If you own antiques or irreplaceable pieces, ask for a wooden crate.
If you have another shipment to the UAE, its road also runs through Al-Ahsa but turns to the Al Batha crossing; see shipping from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
