Open dyna or closed truck for 420 km?

A closed truck is the right choice for a full household even on a relatively short trip like Jeddah to Madinah, while a dyna suits a few well-wrapped items. Four or five hours on an open desert road is enough for dust to get into sofas and mattresses, for wooden surfaces to heat in the sun and for the load to be buffeted by wind if not tightly covered.

How do we pack bedrooms and kitchens on a one-day move?

A one-day trip does not mean lighter packing; highway vibration and loading and unloading on the same day expose furniture to almost the same rubbing as long trips. Bedrooms are fully dismantled with their panels wrapped in blankets, mirrors in rigid card and mattresses in sealed bags.

A wooden kitchen takes longer to dismantle, and the sink and water heater should be disconnected before the crew arrives. AC units are removed by an AC technician who closes the gas circuit before taking down the outdoor unit; both units are then wrapped and moved upright and refitted in Madinah once their position and power point are checked. Window units are boxed and loaded in the middle of the truck with nothing heavy on top.

The fridge is emptied and dried the day before, the washing machine drained and its drum locked, and the cooker disconnected from gas. On arrival, leave the fridge for a few hours before switching it on, as a five-hour drive is enough to move the compressor oil.
