The Riyadh–Taif road: what makes it different?
The road from Riyadh to Taif is long but mostly easy: a flat highway crossing Najd westwards, then climbing gradually to reach Taif from its eastern side. Because the truck enters Taif from the east, it does not need the steep Al Hada pass that links Taif with Makkah, unless your new home is in Al Hada itself or the western heights.
The real challenges on this route are length and the character of Taif’s higher districts. The truck covers around eight hundred kilometres before arriving, the driver needs regular breaks, and the furniture needs securing that withstands hours of vibration. Mountain areas such as Al Shafa and Al Hada have winding roads, some of them narrow, where a smaller vehicle may be needed for the final stage.
How much is furniture moving from Riyadh to Taif?
Furniture moving from Riyadh to Taif starts from SAR 650 for a small flat of one or two rooms, SAR 1,020 for a medium three-bedroom flat and SAR 3,250 for a large villa. Services such as the furniture lift and AC moving have separate starting prices as shown in the table.
| Service | Details | Starts from (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Small flat | One or two rooms; wrapping, transport and unloading | 650 |
| Medium flat | Three rooms with basic dismantling and assembly | 1,020 |
| Large villa | Large truck and an expanded crew | 3,250 |
| Furniture lift for upper floors | For pieces that will not pass the stairs or lift | 185 |
| AC removal and fitting | Per unit | 140 |
| Collection from towns around Riyadh | Al-Kharj, Al Dawadmi, Al Muzahimiyah and others | 90 extra |
These are starting prices; the final price follows a survey or a review of photos. On this route specifically we ask three things: the Taif district and how high it sits, how many ACs are coming, and whether we collect inside Riyadh or from a nearby town.
How far is Taif from Riyadh and how long is the trip?
Riyadh to Taif is about 800 km depending on the district you leave from and the one you arrive in, and a loaded truck covers it in eight to ten hours with breaks. A complete move of a medium flat usually takes a day and a half, and villas two days.
| Stage | Approximate time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dismantling, wrapping and loading | 3 to 5 hours | In Riyadh or a nearby town |
| The road | 8 to 10 hours | With regular driver breaks |
| Overnight stop or evening arrival | Depends on departure time | Unloading in daylight where possible |
| Unloading and assembly | 3 to 5 hours | A little longer in higher districts |
Why do so many people move from Riyadh to Taif?
Taif has a mild summer compared with Riyadh and is one of the Kingdom’s most famous summer destinations, so retirees and families looking for gentler weather and a quieter life choose it. It is also home to military and government personnel transferred there, students and staff of Taif University, and people who work in Makkah but prefer to live in Taif.
Some families move to Taif only for the season, taking part of their furniture to a summer house and bringing it back afterwards. We handle these partial moves with a small truck, and the return trip can be agreed from the start. For seasonal movers we advise leaving heavy pieces in Riyadh and taking only beds, mattresses, essential appliances and some boxes, because moving a full bedroom set twice a year strains its wood and joints and costs more than it saves.

The right wrapping for the Taif trip
Furniture on this route goes through a change of climate and altitude: it leaves Riyadh’s heat and dryness and arrives in a higher, relatively cooler and milder city, which may see rain or fog in some seasons. Wrapping must protect against heat on the road and against damp or rain during unloading.
- Tight film then blankets for wooden furniture and sofas, keeping glossy pieces away from rough ones.
- The load strapped row by row, because a long road means hours of constant vibration.
- Waterproof covers ready for unloading in case of rain.
- Double cardboard for mirrors, glass and screens.
- Corner guards for tables and wardrobes.
- Appliances drained of water before loading.

Moving to Al Shafa, Al Hada and the higher districts
Al Shafa and Al Hada are among Taif’s most beautiful and coolest areas, but reaching them with a large loaded truck is not always easy: mountain roads wind, and some streets inside the districts are narrow and steep. If your home is there, we assess the route in advance from the location and photos, and may park the large truck at a suitable spot and shuttle the load in a smaller vehicle.
This adds time and workers to the final stage, and it is priced in from day one once the location is known. The same applies to some higher districts inside Taif with narrow streets.
In these areas we prefer to unload in the morning, because fog or cloud can settle on the heights in the afternoon in some seasons, cutting visibility on winding roads, and visitor traffic in the tourist areas grows in the evening.
Which Riyadh districts and nearby towns do we collect from?
We collect from every Riyadh district. Western and south-western districts such as Al Suwaidi, Dhahrat Laban, Al Uraija, Al Badiah and Namar are closest to the westbound road, so the trip starts quickly. From the north and east, such as Al Malqa, Al Narjis, Al Rawdah and Al Naseem, leaving takes longer, so we start earlier.
We also collect from towns around Riyadh such as Al-Kharj, Al Dawadmi, Al Muzahimiyah, Al Quwaiiyah and Huraymila, for an extra from SAR 90 depending on distance. If you have a move inside Riyadh before travelling, it can be arranged with our Riyadh furniture moving service.
Which Taif districts do we deliver to?
We deliver to all Taif districts, including Al Hawiyah, Al Shuhada, Al Salamah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Rahmaniyah, Al Mansurah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Rayyan, Umm Al Arad, Shihar, Al Sadad, Al Mathnah, Al Aqiq, Qurwa and Masarrah, and to Al Shafa, Al Hada and the heights. Newer northern and eastern districts are easier to reach, while older central districts need parking arrangements.

Moving air conditioners and large appliances
Many people moving to Taif ask: will I need my ACs there? Taif is cooler than Riyadh, but its summer still calls for cooling in most homes, especially in lower districts. AC removal and fitting starts from SAR 140 per unit; we recommend moving modern units, while very old ones may be cheaper to sell in Riyadh.
Large appliances such as fridges, washers and ovens are drained, secured and wrapped, and stand upright at the front of the truck. If a piece will not pass the stairs in the Taif home, the furniture lift starts from SAR 185.
Moving in summer or winter: does it matter?
It matters in two ways: crowds and weather. In summer demand for Taif rises as many families head there to escape the heat of Najd, so dates fill fast, and some roads in the city and in tourist areas such as Al Shafa and Al Hada get busy at weekends. We advise booking early and avoiding weekends if the home is in a tourist area.
In winter the road is quieter, but Taif nights are cold and rain falls on some days. Rain makes mountain roads slippery and calls for care during unloading, so we bring waterproof covers and may delay unloading a few hours in heavy rain rather than carry wet furniture into the house.
Moving retirees’ furniture to a smaller Taif home
Among the people we move most often on this route are retirees who sold their large Riyadh home and bought a smaller house or flat in Taif. The most important step before such a move is choosing what will actually fit in the new home. Moving all the furniture of a six-room villa into a three-room flat means paying to move pieces that will sit in storage or be sold later for less.
We help with this decision during the survey by roughly measuring what you need, and you can offer surplus pieces to our used furniture buying service before moving day, lightening the load and recovering part of the value of furniture you will not need.
Rural houses and farms around Taif
Around Taif there are many villages and farms, including the famous Taif rose farms and fruit orchards, and some people choose a rural home outside the city. Roads to these homes may be narrow or unpaved, some in the heights, so we ask for the location and photos of the road before the date, choose the right truck size, or shuttle the load in a smaller vehicle from the last point the large truck can reach.
Truck access to Taif districts
Movement of large trucks inside cities follows times and rules set by the authorities, which can differ between main roads and districts and change from time to time. So we confirm what is allowed on booking day and plan the arrival time around it, so the truck does not wait at the city entrance.
Dismantling and assembly
For medium flats and villas the work covers dismantling bedrooms and wardrobes in Riyadh and assembling them in Taif, with parts numbered, photographed and their screws kept safe. The carpenter adjusts doors and drawers after assembly, because a long road can shift the alignment of some pieces slightly.
In villas we also dismantle removable kitchens, children’s bunk beds and large dining tables, and each piece gets a label with its number and the Taif room it goes to. The unloading crew then puts every piece straight into its room, so no heavy wardrobe is carried twice inside the house, and the carpenter assembles rooms in the order you choose, usually bedrooms first, then the kitchen, then the rest.
Insurance and short-term storage
Insurance for the long Taif road can be added, priced on what you value your furniture at and arranged before the loading date. The truck does not leave Riyadh until we have written up the piece list together and photographed anything valuable, and the same list is checked at your door in Taif.
If the Taif home is not ready, or you move seasonally and need space for some furniture, we keep it in our locked furniture storage warehouse and deliver it on the date you set.
