Which route does a shipment take from Madinah to Kuwait?
A shipment from Madinah to Kuwait goes north by road to Hail, east to Hafr Al Batin, and on to the Al Ruqi crossing on the Kuwaiti border, which faces Kuwait’s Al Salmi crossing. This is shorter than driving down to the Eastern Province and crossing at Al Khafji, so it is the practical route for trucks leaving Madinah.
After Al Salmi the truck follows the Salmi road to Jahra and then to the other governorates. A crossing that sits on the direct road means fewer hours driving and less fuel, which shows in the price. Al Khafji makes sense for loads starting in Dammam or Jubail, but it adds a long detour from Madinah.
Shipping prices from Madinah to Kuwait
Shipping from Madinah to Kuwait starts from SAR 1,390 for a single bedroom, SAR 3,850 for a two-bedroom flat and SAR 46 per carton in groupage. We confirm the price once we know the real volume, because two people who each own “one bedroom” can have very different amounts of furniture.
If you are transferring to Kuwait for work and only taking some things, groupage means you pay for the space your cartons use rather than a whole truck. A family moving a full home usually does better with a dedicated truck that loads once and arrives once, without waiting.

How long does shipping from Madinah to Kuwait take?
Road shipping from Madinah to Kuwait usually takes 4 to 7 days for a dedicated truck from loading to delivery. The road through Hail and Hafr Al Batin is over 1,000 km, about two days of driving, plus border time that varies by day and season.
Groupage takes longer because the truck only leaves once enough shipments are collected, which can add three days to a week. If you have few items but are in a hurry, send the essentials by air and the rest by groupage.
| Stage | Details | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Loading in Madinah | Packing, numbering, packing list | One day |
| Road to Al Ruqi | Madinah, Hail, Hafr Al Batin | About two days |
| Al Ruqi and Al Salmi | Exit, entry and inspection | Hours to a day |
| Delivery in Kuwait | Jahra, then the other governorates | One day |
Shipping personal goods and cartons from Madinah to Kuwait
Carton shipping is what students, employees and families visiting relatives ask for most on this route. It runs as groupage: we collect your cartons, weigh and measure them, load them on a shared Kuwait-bound truck and deliver them to the address you give.
Pack cartons of clothes, books and kitchenware properly inside: heavy items at the bottom, light ones on top, and gaps filled with towels or paper so nothing shifts. Write the recipient’s name, Kuwaiti mobile number and the carton number out of the total, for example 3 of 12, on each one.
If you are unsure how to pack perfumes or glassware, leave them to us; we pack them and add them to the list. Never seal prohibited items in a carton hoping it will not be opened, because border inspection can open any box.
Cartons ready for Kuwait?
Send the number of cartons and their rough sizes on WhatsApp, and we will tell you when the next groupage truck leaves Madinah.
Air freight from Madinah to Kuwait
Air freight from Madinah to Kuwait is the fastest option for documents, clothes and small electronics, usually arriving in two to four days depending on flights and procedures at Kuwait International Airport. It is far dearer than road for bulky items.
Airlines charge volumetric weight when it exceeds actual weight. Work it out yourself: multiply the carton’s length, width and height in centimetres and divide by 6000. A 50 × 40 × 40 cm carton has a volumetric weight of about 13.3 kg and is charged at that even if it weighs only 7 kg. Keep air for small, relatively heavy things such as papers, perfumes and devices.
See our air shipping page for details.
Car shipping from Madinah to Kuwait
A car goes from Madinah to Kuwait on a road car carrier through Al Ruqi and Al Salmi, and is delivered where you specify in Kuwait. We use enclosed carriers for new or premium cars and open carriers for everyday vehicles; the car is photographed before loading and the mileage recorded.
Check the year of manufacture before booking: Kuwait does not admit used cars more than 10 years old under the limit announced by its Ministry of Commerce, which applies to cars to be registered in Kuwait. You also need a valid registration, proof of ownership, a no-objection letter from the lender if the car is financed, and no holds that prevent export.
Driving your own car for a visit is a simple round trip; a car that will stay and be registered in Kuwait must be formally exported and cleared. Options are on our car shipping page.

Furniture moving and packing from Madinah to Kuwait
Furniture moving to Kuwait relies on packing that can take over 1,000 km of desert road and vibration, so we dismantle what can be dismantled, wrap each piece in at least two layers and strap the load inside the truck so nothing shifts.
Wardrobe doors and shelves come off and their screws go into bags marked with the wardrobe’s number. Beds are dismantled and their panels wrapped; mattresses go into sealed bags. Glass table tops are removed and wrapped separately in corrugated board. If the kitchen is moving, its cabinets are numbered in wall order so they go back exactly as they were.
Appliances are emptied, cleaned and left a day to dry, then wrapped in blankets. Screens travel upright in boxes, because lying flat through long vibration can damage the panel.

Documents and Kuwaiti customs
For personal goods you need a copy of the sender’s ID or iqama, a copy of the recipient’s Kuwaiti civil ID or passport, and a packing list showing the number of cartons and what each contains. Commercial goods need an invoice and a certificate of origin.
Personal belongings and used furniture are not usually treated as trade goods, but Kuwaiti customs make that judgement; new appliances in their boxes in quantities beyond a family’s needs may require invoices and attract duty. Be clear in the list and mark used furniture and appliances as “used”.
Prohibited items for Kuwait
Kuwait prohibits alcohol, pork products, narcotics, weapons and ammunition, and fireworks; gas cylinders, fuel and flammables must not travel with your goods either. Medicines beyond personal quantities need a prescription.
Watch medicines and supplements
Some medicines allowed in Saudi Arabia may be restricted in Kuwait. Keep personal medicines in your hand luggage with the prescription, not in shipping cartons.
It is also wise not to ship plants, soil or fresh food, which spoil or get held at quarantine. Always carry gold, cash and original documents yourself.
Shipping shop goods from Madinah to Kuwait
Commercial cargo from Madinah to Kuwait can go as a full truck or as space in groupage, and needs a commercial invoice, a certificate of origin and a Kuwaiti importer. Dates, perfumes, clothing and gifts are common trade shipments on this route.
Pack goods in matching cartons marked with the item type and quantity; it speeds up inspection. Do not send goods that need refrigeration in an ordinary truck; ask us first about suitable options.
What happens when the shipment reaches Kuwait?
The driver calls the recipient well ahead of arrival, then the team unloads cartons and pieces and matches them to the numbers on the packing list. After that, wrapping comes off and beds, wardrobes and tables are assembled in the rooms you choose.
Air conditioners need a technician in Kuwait to install them and recharge the gas, and kitchen cabinets go back by their numbers, while plumbing and electrics need a local technician. The recipient should be there in person, not the building guard, to check the pieces and say where they go.
If you want insurance, request it before loading for a value you set, and photograph valuable pieces. Note and photograph any issue with an item during delivery, not after the team has left.
Temporary storage if your Kuwait home is not ready
If your Kuwait lease starts after you leave Madinah, your furniture can be stored, already packed and numbered, until the new home is ready. This is common with transferred employees who hand back their Madinah housing before finding a place in Kuwait. When you are ready, we set the date and the load continues via Al Ruqi as usual. See furniture storage for details.
Common mistakes when shipping to Kuwait
- Giving a Saudi mobile number for the recipient instead of a Kuwaiti one that answers.
- Sealing cartons without numbers, which wastes time at delivery.
- Packing many perfumes and aerosols in one carton.
- Shipping a car more than 10 years old intending to register it in Kuwait.
- Booking a dedicated truck for ten cartons when groupage would cost far less.
Areas of Kuwait we deliver to
We deliver shipments from Madinah to every governorate of Kuwait: the Capital, Hawalli, Farwaniya, Jahra, Ahmadi and Mubarak Al Kabeer, including areas such as Salmiya, Jabriya, Fahaheel, Sabah Al Salem and Mangaf.
Jahra is the first stop after Al Salmi, then loads are distributed to the other governorates. If your building has tight parking, tell us and we will send a smaller vehicle for the last leg.

Districts we collect from in Madinah
We collect from every district of Madinah, such as Quba, Al Aziziyah, Al Awali, Al Difa, Sultanah, Al Khalidiyah, Shoran, Al Anabis, Al Jurf, Al Iskan and Al Harrah Al Sharqiyah, and from governorates such as Yanbu, Badr, Khaybar, AlUla, Al Hinakiyah and Al Mahd. Al Hinakiyah lies on the road east, so its loads can be picked up on the truck’s way.
What raises or lowers the price to Kuwait?
Real volume matters most, then the number of pieces to dismantle and reassemble, then access at either end. An old building without a lift and with a narrow staircase needs more crew and time than a villa where the truck parks at the door.
Sorting before booking lowers the price; many families find on loading day that a quarter of the storeroom is not worth shipping. Packing your own clothes and book cartons, leaving furniture and appliances to us, and choosing groupage when you have no fixed date in Kuwait also cut costs.
How to prepare your home before the loading team arrives
- Empty drawers of papers, gold and medicines and keep them in hand luggage.
- Unplug and dry the fridge a day ahead and drain the washer.
- Mark pieces that are not going with coloured tape.
- Book the lift or tell the building guard the loading time.
- Have the recipient’s Kuwaiti number and map link ready.
