Saudi Express is a shipping company from Riyadh to Oman that moves household goods, furniture, cars and cargo by road in closed trucks through the Empty Quarter crossing, the only land crossing between the Kingdom and Oman, facing Oman’s Ramlat Khilah crossing. We collect from your Riyadh home, wrap, list and clear on both sides, and deliver to Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, Ibri, Sur, Salalah and the other wilayats, usually in 3 to 5 days for Muscat. Prices start from SAR 45 per box, SAR 230 for a part shipment of boxes and belongings, and SAR 2,050 for a two-bedroom flat. Phone or WhatsApp 0560533140.
- Crossing: Empty Quarter on the Saudi side, Ramlat Khilah on the Omani side
- Road: 564 km from the Al Batha road junction to the crossing across the Empty Quarter
- Transit: 3 to 5 days to Muscat; Salalah needs one or two extra days
- Prices: boxes from SAR 45, a two-bedroom flat from SAR 2,050, a villa from SAR 4,150
- Cars: Oman accepts imported private cars under 7 years old
- Papers: a detailed English inventory and an Omani phone number for Bayan
Shipping from Riyadh to Oman is longer than to the rest of the Gulf, but it became far more direct with the Empty Quarter road, which shortened the distance and gave shipments their own crossing instead of passing through a third country. This guide covers the road itself and how trucks and loads are prepared for it, prices and transit times by region, the papers Oman’s Bayan system asks for, the car rules, and the cities we reach.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Oman
Shipping from Riyadh to Oman starts from SAR 45 for a standard box, SAR 230 for a part shipment of boxes and belongings, SAR 2,050 for a two-bedroom flat and SAR 4,150 for a villa; for cars and air freight, ask for the price by call or WhatsApp.
The distance is longer, so pricing here differs from Bahrain or Qatar and depends more on the truck type. A dedicated truck leaves on your date and arrives faster; a shared truck combines several Oman-bound customers and costs less, but may wait to fill. The receiving wilayat matters too: Muscat and Al Batinah sit close to the usual route, while Dhofar in the south is further.

How long does shipping from Riyadh to Muscat and Salalah take?
Shipping from Riyadh to Muscat usually takes 3 to 5 days from loading to delivery, Salalah and Dhofar one or two days more, and air freight to Muscat one to three days.
The trip is a long desert run but a regular one: a day for dismantling, packing and loading; then the road to the Al Batha junction and the Empty Quarter road to the crossing; then Saudi export and Omani entry; then the road from Ramlat Khilah to Ibri and on to Muscat or the destination wilayat. A shared truck adds a day or two while it fills.
| Destination in Oman | Dedicated truck | Shared truck |
|---|---|---|
| Ibri and Al Dhahirah | About 3 days | 4 to 5 days |
| Muscat, Nizwa, Rustaq | 3 to 4 days | 4 to 6 days |
| Sohar, Al Batinah, Buraimi | 3 to 4 days | 4 to 6 days |
| Sur, Ibra, Ash Sharqiyah | About 4 days | 5 to 6 days |
| Salalah and Dhofar | About 5 days | 6 to 7 days |
The Empty Quarter road: how the truck reaches Oman
A truck from Riyadh reaches Oman on the Empty Quarter road, which starts at the Al Batha road junction and runs 564 km through the desert to the Empty Quarter crossing, and from there to Ramlat Khilah on the Omani side.
It is one of the longest straight roads in the region, crossing wide sand dunes with fewer services than usual routes. So we only send trucks in good mechanical condition, with checked tyres, enough fuel and water for the driver, and we time the trip to avoid the hottest hours in summer. The crossing has a cargo area handling around 966 trucks a day, connects north to the Al Batha crossing, and is overseen by the Ministry of Interior and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.
On this long desert trip, never pack leak-prone liquids in a box with fabrics, or candles and creams next to upholstered furniture; heat building up over a full day is not the same as on a trip of a few hours.
Do some shipments pass through the UAE?
Most shipments from Riyadh to Oman go straight through the Empty Quarter crossing; some may transit the UAE when the destination is in northern Oman or the truck is carrying loads for more than one country.
Transit through the UAE means passing Al Batha and Al Ghuwaifat, then entering Oman at one of its crossings with the UAE, which adds transit formalities in a third country. We only use it when it suits the delivery location or the trip schedule, and we tell you in advance. If you are also shipping to the UAE from Riyadh, see our guide for the shipping company from Riyadh to the UAE.
Household goods and furniture to Oman
Moving household goods from Riyadh to Oman starts from SAR 230 for a group of boxes and personal belongings, SAR 2,050 for a two-bedroom flat with dismantling, packing, transport and delivery, and SAR 4,150 for a villa.

Many people moving from Riyadh to Oman are employees in energy, education and health, and Omani families returning home after years of work in the Kingdom. Returning families want the home to arrive as they left it, with the majlis, bedrooms and kitchenware. We start with a video survey, then a day of dismantling, wrapping and numbering, and the inventory is written item by item in English, because Omani customs does not accept vague entries such as “household goods”.
- Bedrooms: beds and wardrobes dismantled, screws in numbered bags taped to each piece.
- Majlis: bases and cushions wrapped separately, rugs rolled and covered.
- Kitchen: cabinets removed if they will be refitted in Oman; crockery wrapped piece by piece in divided boxes.
- Appliances: fridge and washer dried with doors secured; AC removed by a technician.
- Antiques and valuables: padded wooden crates, photographed before and after wrapping.
In Oman we deliver and reassemble in the new home, whether a flat in Al Khuwair, a villa in Al Mawaleh or a family house in Nizwa or Sohar. If the house is not ready yet, we store the furniture wrapped in Riyadh until shipping day; details on our furniture storage page.
Kitchens and AC units
A split AC is removed by a technician who traps the gas in the outdoor unit and caps the pipes; a kitchen’s cabinets come apart, doors and shelves are numbered, and the stone top travels on its edge in a timber frame. Before deciding to move them to Oman, compare the new kitchen’s dimensions and the home’s cooling system, because many new flats in Muscat come with a fitted kitchen and AC, and moving things that will not be installed costs a long distance for nothing.
Omani families returning from Riyadh
An Omani family returning from Riyadh can bring its whole home duty-free when the furniture is used, for personal use and arrives within the first six months of return, with proof of the previous residence in the Kingdom.
Many Omani families spent years in Riyadh for work or study and built up a full home of furniture, appliances, the children’s books and toys. For the return we suggest a simple plan: a month before travel the family sorts what will move and what will be sold or given away; two weeks before, the survey is done and loading day set; on loading day we dismantle, wrap and list, leaving the family what it needs for the last days in Riyadh. Once the head of the family reaches Oman, he sends us his Omani phone number to register the shipment in Bayan, and the truck moves. That way the home arrives a few days after the family, not before it, waiting at the border, and not months later, missing the exemption window.
Packing that survives the long desert trip
Packing for Oman is heavier than for Bahrain or Kuwait, because the load stays in the truck for a day or more in desert heat and long-road vibration, so we double the protection on sensitive pieces.
| Item | Packing for a long trip | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Polished wood | Two blankets then stretch film, with cardboard corners | Rubbing builds up over distance |
| Glass and mirrors | Double bubble wrap and a light timber frame | Constant vibration strains glass |
| Electronics | Original boxes or dense foam | Heat and dust |
| Mattresses and fabrics | Fully sealed bags | Fine sand gets into fabric |
| Crockery and sets | Paper per piece in divided boxes | Pieces do not rub |
We stack the load with no gaps: heavy items on the floor and forward, mattresses as dividers between rows, heavy boxes under light ones, then tie-down straps are tightened and checked before departure, and the driver checks them again halfway.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Oman
A car is shipped from Riyadh to Oman on a car carrier or flatbed through the Empty Quarter crossing; a private car must be under 7 years old and come with an export certificate from its country of registration, and you can ask for the price by call or WhatsApp.

Omani customs sets age limits for imported used vehicles: private cars under 7 years, used trucks and buses under 10 years, equipment under 15 years, with classic cars subject to special rules and approval from the Directorate General of Traffic. The Royal Oman Police also requires vehicles coming from GCC states to have an export certificate issued by the competent authorities in the car’s country of registration, rather than the clearance certificate. The car must meet the specifications in force in the Sultanate, and an individual importer must be at least 18.
- Work out the car’s age from its manufacture date and confirm it before getting the export certificate.
- Get the export certificate from Saudi traffic authorities and surrender the plates for a permanent export.
- Prepare the original registration card, the owner’s ID or iqama copy and the receiver’s passport in Oman.
- If you will drive and bring the car back, it counts as a temporary entry: Omani motor insurance must be valid and, for a car registered to someone else, a letter of authority is needed.
An electric car ships with its battery at roughly 30 to 50 percent and transport mode on if available, and we prefer an enclosed carrier given the long sandy road.
The long Empty Quarter road is another reason to put a new or luxury car on a carrier rather than drive it, sparing it hundreds of kilometres of sand and heat. Details on our car shipping page.
Air freight from Riyadh to Muscat
Urgent parcels go on flights from RUH to Muscat International and land within one to three days, charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight.

Since the road to Oman takes days, air is more useful here than for Bahrain or Kuwait. It suits official documents and residence or study papers, small devices, personal medicine with a prescription, and clothes suitcases a family needs before the furniture arrives. Volumetric weight is the product of length, width and height in centimetres divided by 6000 in most cases, so do not send a large half-empty box. Items with big lithium batteries or flammable contents are refused or accepted only under conditions. More on our air freight page.
Commercial cargo to Oman
Cargo from Riyadh to Oman moves as a full or part load through the Empty Quarter crossing, needs the usual trade papers (an invoice, a packing list, an origin certificate) plus special licences for some items such as medicines, and is priced by weight and volume.
The Empty Quarter road opened a direct door for trade between the two countries: building materials, food, furniture and industrial products from Riyadh to Muscat, Sohar and Ibri. Saudi or GCC-origin goods with a correct certificate are treated as national products, and clearance in Oman is electronic through Bayan, so invoice details and tariff lines must be accurate before departure. Because the distance is long, we advise traders to book a full load when their goods fill a truck, since it leaves at once and does not wait.
Papers and customs clearance in Oman
For personal effects and used furniture to Oman the receiver should provide a passport copy showing the Omani visa page, the residence visa and both sides of the Resident Card, a detailed English inventory, an authorisation letter for the broker, and an Omani phone number for the receiver to register in Bayan.
Under the customs system shared by the Gulf states, someone returning home after living abroad, or an expatriate settling in for the first time, brings used furniture and personal belongings in duty-free as long as they are for private use and land within half a year of the owner; a car falls outside this relief. This matters for Omani families returning from Riyadh: the head of the family should keep proof of the previous residence in the Kingdom and of return, and ship the furniture in the first months back.
- Passport copy with the Omani visa stamp page.
- Copy of the residence visa and the Resident Card issued by the Royal Oman Police, for residents.
- A detailed English inventory describing every item, no vague entries.
- An authorisation letter from the receiver to the broker in Oman.
- An Omani phone number for the receiver to register the electronic clearance in Bayan.
- Copy of the sender’s Saudi ID or iqama for the export declaration.
Prohibited and restricted items for Oman
Flammables, gas cylinders, weapons, ammunition, narcotics and counterfeit goods cannot be shipped to Oman, and medicines in quantity, radio devices and drones are restricted to permits from Omani authorities.
- Petrol, gas, paint, solvents, fireworks, and gas cylinders even when empty.
- Perishable food, meat and frozen goods on road loads.
- Live plants, soil and seeds without agricultural quarantine approval.
- Medicines in quantity or controlled drugs without prescription and approval.
- Cash, gold, jewellery and original documents stay with their owner.
The Empty Quarter trip is long, and a truck turned back at the border over a prohibited item loses days, not hours. Check the store room, roof and home warehouse with us before packing.
Cities and wilayats we deliver to in Oman
From Riyadh we deliver to every governorate of Oman: Muscat, Al Batinah, Ad Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, Ash Sharqiyah, Dhofar, Al Wusta and Musandam.

| Governorate | Example cities and areas | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Muscat | Bausher, Seeb, Al Athaiba, Qurum, Al Khuwair, Al Mawaleh, Ruwi, Muttrah, Al Amerat | The most requested destination |
| Al Batinah | Sohar, Rustaq, Shinas, Barka, Al Musanaah | Industrial and residential |
| Ad Dakhiliyah | Nizwa, Bahla, Izki, Samail | Mountain roads in places |
| Al Dhahirah & Buraimi | Ibri, Yanqul, Al Buraimi | Closest to Ramlat Khilah |
| Ash Sharqiyah | Sur, Ibra, Bidiyah | About one extra day |
| Dhofar & Al Wusta | Salalah, Duqm | The furthest destinations south |
In Muscat, delivery differs by area: Al Khuwair, Qurum and Ruwi are flat and apartment districts needing a lift booking and a spot for the truck, Al Mawaleh, Al Athaiba and Al Khoudh are villa districts where unloading is easy, and gated compounds ask for an entry permit with the crew names and truck number a day ahead. Salalah lies a long way south through Al Wusta, so we run it on a separate schedule and tell you the expected date before leaving Riyadh. In the mountain wilayats of Ad Dakhiliyah some houses need a smaller truck for the last stretch, which we settle at the survey.
All our Oman services are on the shipping to Oman page. Shipping from elsewhere in the Kingdom? Every pickup route is listed in shipping from Saudi Arabia to Oman, and from the west coast see shipping from Jeddah to Oman.

Tips before shipping to Oman
Our key advice: write the inventory in English in detail, make sure your car is under 7 years old, and send household goods early in the residence period or soon after returning.
- Ask the receiver in Oman for an Omani phone number registered in their name before shipping.
- Keep liquids, candles and creams away from fabrics; the trip is long and hot.
- Pack what you need for the first week in a suitcase that flies with you.
- If you will live in Salalah, add two days to the Muscat timing.
- Do not move old furniture you will replace; the long distance makes every metre of truck space cost more.
