Saudi Express ships household furniture, cars, offices and goods from Jeddah to Oman by road in closed trucks, either along the Empty Quarter road that links the Kingdom directly with the wilayat of Ibri, or through the UAE from the Al Batha crossing when the destination is in northern Oman and the load is combined with UAE shipments. The route from Jeddah to Oman: Empty Quarter or the UAE?
There are two road routes from Jeddah to Oman: the first goes directly along the Empty Quarter road to the Empty Quarter crossing and then Ibri; the second goes through the UAE from the Al Batha crossing and enters Oman from its border with the UAE. We choose between them based on the wilayat of delivery and whether the shipment is dedicated or shared.
The Empty Quarter road starts at the Al Batha–Haradh junction and crosses the desert past the Shaybah field to the border, a stretch of about 564 km on the Saudi side according to the Roads General Authority, then continues about 161 km on the Omani side to the Ibri roundabout according to the Oman News Agency. This road cut a long detour that carriers used to make through the UAE before it opened, and the crossing operates around the clock.
When do we choose the UAE route? When the destination is Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah or Musandam, or when your small shipment joins a departure already heading to the UAE. In that case the shipment goes through additional UAE transit procedures, which we arrange with the broker. Shipments to Muscat, Ad Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah and Ash Sharqiyah usually find the Empty Quarter shorter.

Oman is the furthest Gulf destination from Jeddah by road, which is why its prices are higher than Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.

The long distance makes volume matter more than on any other route: every extra cubic metre is paid for over a road of more than two thousand kilometres. So we advise Oman customers more than anyone to sort seriously before the survey: old beds, worn sofas and weak appliances are often cheaper to replace in Muscat than to ship. The pieces you love or cannot easily replace get packing worthy of the trip.
During the survey, ask the team for a separate estimate per room. That makes it easier to decide which rooms are worth shipping whole and which only need a few selected pieces.
How long does shipping from Jeddah to Oman take?
Road shipping from Jeddah to Oman usually takes 5 to 9 days from loading to delivery; the gap between the two figures comes from the destination wilayat, the chosen route and border procedures. Air freight to Muscat usually arrives within 2 to 4 days.
| Stage | Approximate time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation and loading in Jeddah | 1 to 2 days | Dismantling, packing, inventory |
| Jeddah to the Empty Quarter crossing | About 2 to 3 days | Via Riyadh, Haradh and the desert road |
| Border procedures | 1 to 2 days | Saudi export and Omani import |
| Ibri to the wilayat | Hours to 1 day | Muscat and Nizwa are closer, Salalah further |
| Delivery and reassembly | 1 day | Depending on the size of the home |
Salalah is a special case: it is in Dhofar governorate in the south of the Sultanate, far from Ibri and Muscat, so it needs an extra day or two on Oman’s internal roads. Tell us early if your destination is Salalah, Duqm or Sur so we can plan the trip and give you a realistic date.
What happens at the Empty Quarter crossing?
At the Empty Quarter crossing the truck goes through two stages: Saudi customs, which records the export and matches the load with the declaration, and then Omani customs, which receives the import declaration, inspects the shipment and releases it. After release, the truck heads on to Ibri and then the destination wilayat.
The crossing sits in the middle of the desert, far from any city, so a missing paper costs more here than anywhere else: there is no nearby office to fix a document quickly. That is why we ask for every paper to be complete before loading: a copy of the sender’s ID, the receiver’s Omani ID card or residency, an active Omani phone number and a signed inventory. If you have a car, new appliances or office furniture, we confirm their requirements with the broker before the truck leaves Jeddah.
Ask the receiver in Oman to keep their phone on the day the truck reaches the border, as the broker may call to confirm details or the address.
Departure schedules to Oman and shared loads
Shared departures from Jeddah to Oman are less frequent than to Kuwait and Bahrain, because demand is lower and the distance longer. So a small shipment may wait several days for the truck to fill, which you should factor in if you are in a hurry.
You have three options depending on your volume and timing: wait for the next shared departure and pay only for your volume, book a dedicated truck that leaves on your date if your furniture is large, or add a small shipment to a departure heading to the UAE and continue to northern Oman if your destination is Al Buraimi or Sohar. We explain all three with their prices and dates, and you choose.
Shipping methods from Jeddah to Oman: road, sea and air
Road is the usual way to move homes, cars and offices from Jeddah to Oman; air suits urgent parcels to Muscat, and sea suits large commercial containers to Sohar Port or Salalah Port.
By sea, Oman is closer to Jeddah than Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrain, because a ship bound for Salalah on the Arabian Sea does not need to enter the Gulf. So sea freight can make sense for a trader shipping containers to Dhofar, or for heavy, non-urgent goods. For furniture, road remains the better fit, because it takes the furniture door to door without passing through ports and repeated loading and unloading.
Air freight from Jeddah to Muscat
Air freight from Jeddah to Oman arrives at Muscat International Airport and then the address, in roughly 2 to 4 days. It is for documents, light parcels, samples, urgent spare parts and the first-days bag for anyone whose furniture is still on the way to Muscat.

Air charges cover the space a shipment takes on the plane as well as its weight: length, width and height in centimetres are multiplied, the result is divided by 6,000, compared with the scale weight, and the larger figure is used. That is why a large, light box is expensive by air, while papers and small devices are relatively economical. Ask for the price by phone or WhatsApp before sending.
Car shipping from Jeddah to Oman
We ship cars from Jeddah to Oman on carriers that take the Empty Quarter or the UAE route depending on the destination, using enclosed carriers for luxury and new cars and open ones for family cars. Because the trip is long, we recommend an enclosed carrier for anyone who wants to protect the paintwork from sand.

The most important thing to check before shipping is the car’s age: according to Oman’s Directorate General of Customs, imported private vehicles must be no more than 7 years from their manufacturing date, trucks and buses 10 years, and they must meet Omani standards. If your car is older, it may not be allowed to register in Oman however good its condition.
- A valid registration card and the owner’s ID or iqama.
- An export certificate and export plates from the traffic department for a permanent move.
- For a car still under finance, written consent from the lender.
- An empty car and photos of its condition before loading.
The price of shipping a car to Oman depends on its type and the route, so ask for the price by phone or WhatsApp. Anyone driving themselves on a visit needs a valid registration, insurance covering Oman and, for a car registered to someone else, Absher permission; the triptyque cases are on its own page, and carrier details on car shipping.
Moving furniture from Jeddah to Oman: packing for the desert road
Moving furniture from Jeddah to Oman needs stronger packing than any other Gulf route, because the truck crosses the Empty Quarter in intense heat and sand and stays on the road for days. We use at least two layers on every wooden piece, sealed covers for mattresses and sofas, and wooden crates for glass, marble and antiques.

| Item | What we do | Why on the Oman trip specifically |
|---|---|---|
| Wood and wardrobes | Blanket, then tight stretch film and corners | Long heat dries wood and friction scratches it |
| Mattresses and sofas | Fully sealed covers | Fine sand works its way into fabric |
| Glass and marble | Padded wooden crate | Hours of vibration on a straight road |
| Electronics | Padded carton away from the truck wall | Heat from the metal wall in the desert |
| Candles and air fresheners | Not shipped | They melt or leak in the heat |
Dismantling is done by a carpenter who numbers every part and ties its screws to it in a bag, and reassembly in Oman follows those numbers. We write the room in the new home on every box, so when the truck reaches Muscat or Nizwa the team knows where each piece goes without asking.
Moving offices and companies from Jeddah to Oman
We move offices and companies from Jeddah to Oman with a plan that differs from home moves: we list furniture and equipment by department, number desks and cabinets, pack computers, printers and servers in padded cartons with a list of serial numbers, and set a date that minimises the days the business is closed.
A company’s furniture and equipment is usually not treated at customs as personal effects; it needs an invoice or a statement of value and papers in the name of the importing company in Oman. So with companies we start with the paperwork before the furniture and check with the broker what their case requires before setting the loading day.
Shipping goods and parcels from Jeddah to Oman
We ship commercial goods from Jeddah to Oman on full or shared trucks, and with the broker we prepare the export declaration via Fasah, the commercial invoice, the certificate of origin and the packing list. Personal parcels and boxes start from SAR 46 per box on a shared departure.
Food products and cosmetics need prior approval in Oman, so make sure the importer there holds the licences before shipping. General goods are mostly subject to the unified Gulf tariff.
A practical example: moving a family from Jeddah to Muscat
A family living in Al Safa in Jeddah is moving to the wilayat of Seeb in Muscat, with three bedrooms, a majlis, a kitchen, appliances and fifty boxes. That load is close to a dedicated truck, so the plan is: a video survey, two days of dismantling, packing and inventory, then the truck travels via Riyadh and Haradh to the Empty Quarter crossing, then Ibri, Nizwa and Muscat, and one day for reassembly.
Meanwhile the father travels first to receive the home and set up electricity and water, and the family stays in Jeddah until loading day before flying. The bag of school papers goes by air to Muscat to arrive before the truck. This way the family arrives to a home with its own furniture within a few days of landing, without paying an extra month’s rent in Jeddah.
Documents needed to ship from Jeddah to Oman
Paperwork for Oman starts with the sender’s ID or iqama and the receiver’s Omani ID or residency, an inventory for personal belongings, plus the invoice and origin certificate for any goods, and the car’s registration card with its export certificate. If the route goes through the UAE, extra transit papers may be needed, which we handle with the broker.
| Shipment | Main documents | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and belongings | ID, receiver details and inventory | Do not mix new goods with furniture |
| Office or company furniture | Invoice or statement of value and importer papers | Not treated as personal effects |
| Car | Registration, export certificate and bank letter | Maximum age for private cars is 7 years |
| Commercial goods | Invoice, certificate of origin and packing list | Food and cosmetics need approvals |
Prohibited items when shipping to Oman
Weapons, ammunition, drugs, flammable materials, gas cylinders and fuel cannot be shipped to Oman, and some items need prior permission, such as controlled medicines, wireless devices and plants. Omani Customs also lists motorcycles under 70 cc and three-wheeled vehicles as banned unless a permit is issued.
On a long desert trip, do not put cash, gold, original documents or medicines you need daily in the shipment. Carry them with you.
Insurance and storage on the Jeddah–Oman route
Because the trip to Oman is the longest of the Gulf routes, shipment insurance is worth considering. Cover follows the declared value on your inventory and normally applies to road accidents or falls; before loading we explain what it excludes, such as items packed without inspection.
Storage is used by someone who went ahead of the family to Oman to start a job, or who is waiting to receive a new home in Muscat. The furniture stays packed in our closed warehouse and leaves on the truck once you tell us the home is ready. Details are on our furniture storage page.

We deliver shipments from Jeddah to the governorates of Oman: Muscat, North and South Al Batinah, Ad Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, North and South Ash Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar, and we arrange Musandam case by case because it is geographically separate from the rest of the Sultanate.
