How much does shipping from Saudi Arabia to Libya cost?
Shipping from Saudi Arabia to Libya starts from SAR 140 per carton, SAR 5.5 per kg for parcels over 100 kg, SAR 420 per cubic metre in shared sea freight, SAR 1,670 for a full room of furniture and SAR 3,250 for a sedan. The final price depends on volume or weight, the type of goods and the Libyan city where you will receive them.
Libya is one of the routes where goods and family parcels are requested as much as furniture: a trader sending clothes, perfumes or spare parts, a family sending boxes of gifts and personal items, a worker finishing a contract and going home with his belongings. That is why our prices use different units: per carton for small parcels, per kilo for heavy ones, per cubic metre for goods and per room for furniture.
| Service | Details | From (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Carton of belongings | Standard carton with door pickup | 140 |
| Heavy parcels | Per kg for shipments over 100 kg | 5.5 |
| Shared goods | Per cubic metre in a shared container | 420 |
| Small goods load | A limited-size commercial consignment | 1,395 |
| Full room of furniture | Dismantling, packing, shipping and assembly | 1,670 |
| Fridge or washer | One appliance in a shared shipment | 695 |
| Sedan car | Small or medium car | 3,250 |
| Air freight | Urgent parcels and papers, per kg | 18 |
What moves the price up or down: whether goods are light and bulky, like clothes and foam, and so charged by the cubic metre, or heavy and compact, like steel and spare parts, and so charged by weight; whether they need special packing or wooden crates; and the Libyan city, since delivery within Tripoli or Misrata is shorter than to Sabha or Kufra.
💡 How to get a quick price
Send on WhatsApp the type of goods, the number of cartons or rough dimensions, the weight if you know it, and the Libyan city. For furniture, send photos of the rooms.
Which route does a shipment to Libya take: sea, or road through Egypt?
The main route from Saudi Arabia to Libya is by sea: the container is loaded in Jeddah, passes through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and arrives at Misrata, Tripoli or Benghazi. It suits every kind of shipment, from a single carton to a car or full container, and keeps the cargo in a sealed container until the Libyan port.
There is a second route for some shipments to eastern Libya: the truck drives to Duba, crosses by ferry to Safaga in Egypt, then continues by road to the Salloum crossing on the Libyan border and on to Tobruk and Benghazi. This route depends on the state of the crossings at the time of booking and on the type of goods, so we only use it after confirming its status that same week.
| Route | Suits | Approximate time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sea to Misrata or Tripoli | West and centre, every shipment type | 3 to 5 weeks door to door | The usual route for most shipments |
| Sea to Benghazi | East and Jebel Akhdar | 3 to 5 weeks door to door | Depending on line availability |
| Road via Egypt and Salloum | Some eastern Libya shipments | Set at booking | Depends on crossing status at the time |
| Air | Urgent parcels and papers | 4 to 7 days | Charged on volumetric weight |
What determines the price of shipping to Libya?
The price of shipping to Libya depends first on the right unit of measure for the shipment, then on the port and city, then on added services. A few cartons are priced per carton, heavy parcels per kilo, goods per cubic metre, and a whole home or a large trader per container.
- Volume or weight: in shared freight, the greater of cubic metres and tonnes is charged.
- Type of goods: liquids, glass and devices need stronger packing; food may need a reefer.
- Port and city: delivery from Misrata to Zliten is shorter than to Sabha.
- Services: furniture dismantling and assembly, wooden crates, insurance and temporary storage.
- Season: before Ramadan, Eid and the school year demand rises and consolidation takes longer.
So before quoting we ask about the type of goods, quantity and city; the figure we send is built on your shipment, not on a general average.
Libyan ports our shipments arrive at
Our shipments reach Libya through three main ports: Misrata in the centre, with an active free zone, Tripoli in the west and Benghazi in the east, with some containers going to Khoms. Choosing the port nearest your city saves a day or more of inland distribution and reduces the cost from port to door.
| Port | Cities it usually serves | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Misrata | Misrata, Zliten, Khoms, Sirte, Bani Walid | Free zone and regular container calls |
| Tripoli | Tripoli, Janzour, Tajoura, Zawiya, Gharyan, Sabratha | For the capital and western Libya |
| Benghazi | Benghazi, Al Marj, Al Bayda, Derna, Tobruk, Ajdabiya | For the east and Jebel Akhdar |
| Khoms | Khoms, Msallata and surroundings | Depending on the line |
Southern cities such as Sabha, Ubari and Murzuq are reached by road from the nearest port, with timing that depends on roads and distance. We tell you before shipping so you can plan collection.
Sending goods or cartons to Libya?
Tell us the type of shipment and the Libyan city, and we will send the price and the next container date the same day.
How many days does a shipment from Saudi Arabia to Libya take?
A sea shipment from Saudi Arabia to Libya usually takes 3 to 5 weeks from pickup to delivery, and an air shipment 4 to 7 days. The voyage itself from Jeddah to Libyan ports takes two to three weeks, longer if the container needs transhipment at a hub.
In shared freight the box only sails once filled, which can add days yet saves a lot on small quantities. Clearance at the Libyan port takes 3 to 7 working days and runs longer when papers are missing or the invoice description is vague. Then comes distribution: a day or two for cities near the port, more for the south.
A practical tip: for seasonal goods such as Eid clothing or school supplies, book about two months ahead, because container demand rises before the seasons and consolidation takes longer.
Shipping commercial goods from Saudi Arabia to Libya
Commercial goods to Libya travel by sea in a full container or in shared freight from SAR 420 per cubic metre, with a certified commercial invoice, a certificate of origin, a packing list and the Libyan importer’s trade register. On the Saudi side the export declaration is filed on FASAH, which we prepare with the shipper.
The most requested goods on this route are clothing, abayas and fabrics; perfumes, incense and oud; packaged dates; household goods; car spare parts; and dry tinned food. Each needs its own packing: perfumes are sealed tightly and shipped by sea, not air, because they are flammable liquids, and dates need firm commercial packaging with a clear expiry date.
Available containers: a 20 ft holds about 33 cubic metres and a 40 ft about 67, and reefer containers are available for sensitive foods. For container types and pricing, see our sea freight page. Traders who ship regularly benefit from reserving fixed space in each shared container, so their goods arrive in steady batches.
⚠️ Invoice at real value
Under-declaring the invoice to cut duties exposes the container to holds and re-valuation and can cost more than it saves. A label like “mixed merchandise” halts the declaration.
Shipping cartons, parcels and luggage to Libya
Shipping cartons to Libya starts from SAR 140 for a standard carton with home pickup, heavy parcels over 100 kg from SAR 5.5 per kg, and urgent air from SAR 18 per kg. Libyans in Saudi Arabia use this service to send gifts, clothes and personal items to family, or to move their belongings when their work ends.
Every carton carries the consignee’s name as on their ID, their Libyan phone number, city and district, and the shipment number. We use double-wall cartons for sea freight because a shared container is unloaded and restowed more than once. We do not recommend packing sealed new appliances in large numbers into family cartons, as they are treated as goods and attract duty.
📦 Standard carton
From SAR 140, for clothes, gifts and personal items.
⚖️ Heavy parcels
From SAR 5.5 per kg for shipments over 100 kg.
✈️ Urgent by air
From SAR 18 per kg, for papers, personal medicines and small devices.
🏠 From your door
We collect from your home in any Saudi city and deliver in the Libyan city.
Shipping household furniture from Saudi Arabia to Libya
Shipping furniture to Libya starts from SAR 1,670 for a full room including dismantling, packing, shipping and assembly, and a fridge or washer from SAR 695. A whole home usually goes in a dedicated 20 ft or 40 ft container, loaded at your door and sealed until the Libyan port.

Furniture is dismantled by technicians and each piece’s screws are bagged, numbered and taped to it. Wooden pieces get a blanket layer under stretch film, upholstery a damp-proof sleeve, and marble or glass a timber crate. The kitchen is packed item by item in divided cartons, and appliances are drained and dried before closing so no smell develops over weeks at sea.
We then write a detailed inventory of every piece, which is what goes to Libyan customs. Used personal effects are generally exempt from duty in Libya, provided they are used, for personal use and clearly listed. New appliances in quantity or new furniture still boxed with invoices may be treated as goods.
Car shipping from Saudi Arabia to Libya
Shipping a car from Saudi Arabia to Libya starts from SAR 3,250 for a sedan, by sea either RoRo, where the car is driven onto the vessel, or inside a container secured with straps. Before shipping, check the car’s age: Libyan ports generally require it to be no more than about 10 years old, and some ports set a lower limit, so we confirm the accepted model year with the clearing office before booking.

Import charges for a car in Libya are calculated as a share of its value and are usually higher for 4×4 vehicles. Heavily accident-damaged cars are not worth shipping, as they may be refused or valued unexpectedly. In a container, the car can travel with some packed belongings, provided they are on the inventory and not left inside the cabin.
Car documents on the Saudi side
- The original istimara held by the owner, or a new car’s customs card.
- A copy of the owner’s ID or iqama plus passport.
- A letter from the shipper, with the traffic department’s export formalities for the vehicle finished.
- No outstanding fines, a quarter tank of fuel, and the battery terminal disconnected in a container.
To compare RoRo, container and carrier options, see our car shipping page.
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Libya
Air freight from Saudi Arabia to Libya arrives in 4 to 7 days and starts from SAR 18 per kg, landing at Mitiga in Tripoli, Benina in Benghazi or Misrata airport depending on the flight. It suits official papers, permitted personal medicines, small electronics and urgent clothing.

Air charges use whichever is higher, the scale weight or the volume weight; for the latter, multiply the carton’s three sides in centimetres and divide by 6000. So a carton measuring 60 by 40 by 40 cm is billed as 16 kg, even if the scale shows 10. So we send small dense items by air and leave large light ones for the sea.
Perfumes, sprays, loose lithium batteries and lighters are not accepted by air; perfumes go by sea, tightly sealed. Our air freight page explains the service further.
Shipping dates and food to Libya
Dates and packaged dry foods are among the most common things sent from Saudi Arabia to Libya, both commercially and as gifts. Commercial date shipments need firm commercial packaging labelled with country of origin, production and expiry dates, may need a health certificate depending on quantity, and in the hot months are better shipped in a reefer container.
Dates, coffee and spices packed in family quantities travel in cartons, provided they are factory-sealed. We do not ship fresh or cooked food or untinned dairy, because it spoils on the way and may be refused on arrival.
Documents required to ship to Libya
To ship from Saudi Arabia to Libya you need a copy of the sender’s ID or iqama and passport, the Libyan consignee’s ID, a detailed packing list, an invoice or value statement, the bill of lading, and for commercial shipments a certificate of origin and the importer’s trade register. We handle the FASAH export declaration and the bill of lading.
| Document | For which shipment | Prepared by |
|---|---|---|
| Sender ID or iqama and passport | All shipments | Customer |
| Consignee ID and Libyan phone number | All shipments | Customer |
| Detailed packing list | Cartons, furniture and goods | Saudi Express with the customer |
| Invoice or value statement | All shipments | Shipper |
| Bill of lading | Sea freight | Saudi Express |
| Certificate of origin and importer register | Commercial goods | Shipper and importer |
| Car papers | Cars | Customer with Saudi Express |
Books in large numbers and computers may need approval on arrival, so list them separately. Non-Libyans moving to work in Libya need a copy of their Libyan visa or residence permit, and a letter from their employer if requested.
Permanent return to Libya and contracts ending
A Libyan returning permanently from Saudi Arabia can ship used furniture and belongings, which are generally treated as exempt personal effects when used and clearly listed, and proof of return and of ended residence abroad is sometimes requested. Residents of other nationalities who finish their contracts and move to work in Libya also need proof of their Libyan residence or visa.
In that case we suggest three stages: suitcases for the first two weeks, a small air shipment for papers, personal medicines and children’s clothes, then the container for furniture and appliances. We ask you to wrap up your Saudi commitments before loading, such as handing over the flat and closing utilities, so the container date is not held up. We write the inventory with you so personal effects are kept apart from any commercial goods.
Mistakes that delay shipments at Libyan ports
The shipments most delayed at Libyan ports are those that arrived with missing papers or vague descriptions, not those whose vessel was late. These are the mistakes we review with the customer before loading:
- A general goods description: “clothes” without types and quantities, or “items” without details.
- An unrealistic value: a very low invoice leads to re-valuation and holds.
- Mixing commercial and personal: goods for sale inside family cartons, so the whole shipment is treated as goods.
- A car over the age limit: shipped before confirming the model year accepted at the port.
- An unreachable consignee: phone off during arrival days, so the broker cannot reach them.
- Prohibited items in the shipment: a gas canister or chemical found at inspection stops the container.
To avoid all of these, before pickup we send you a short list of what we need, match names across ID, bill of lading and packing list, and send a copy to the consignee in Libya.
Insurance and storage before shipping to Libya
Cover for a Libya shipment is optional; its premium is a percentage of the value you declare, and it normally protects against damage and loss from transport accidents, sinking and fire, but not improperly packed items or anything missing from the list. We recommend it especially for commercial goods, appliances and cars.
If your goods are gathered in batches, or your home in Libya is not ready yet, the shipment can be kept packed in a warehouse in Saudi Arabia until the quantity is complete or the container date arrives. Monthly storage fees depend on volume, and storing helps a trader fill a full container instead of shipping shared, saving on the cubic-metre rate.
Prohibited items when shipping to Libya
Weapons, ammunition, narcotics, alcohol and prohibited printed matter cannot be shipped to Libya, and medicines are accepted only in personal quantities or with a licence. We also turn away flammables, gas and hazardous chemicals, since one leaking can puts every crate on board at risk.
- Banned: arms, ammunition and imitation weapons, narcotics, alcohol, banned publications.
- Restricted: medicines beyond personal use, wireless devices, books in large quantities.
- We do not ship: gas cylinders, petrol, paints, pesticides and fresh food.
- With you, not in the shipment: cash, gold, jewellery and original documents.
Shipping to Libya from the Kingdom’s main cities
Each Saudi city has its own type of Libya shipments and its own way to Jeddah port. A look at the most requested cities:
From Jeddah
Jeddah is the main consolidation point for Libya, with containers loaded there and usually handed to Jeddah Islamic Port the same day. Jeddah shipments therefore reach the container fastest, and many are commercial goods from Al-Balad and the souqs, or family cartons from the city’s southern and northern districts.
From Riyadh
In Riyadh we collect cartons, furniture and goods from every district and truck them to Jeddah in one or two days depending on the container date. Many Riyadh shipments are household goods of families finishing contracts, plus equipment and office supplies, and loading is usually early in the week to catch the weekly container.
From Dammam and the Eastern Province
Shipments from Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Al-Ahsa usually go by road to Jeddah, because the sea route from Dammam to the Mediterranean goes around the peninsula. The Eastern Province ships a lot of equipment, spare parts and industrial tools, which need precise technical descriptions on the invoice.
From Qassim, Madinah and Makkah
Qassim ships a lot of packaged dates and date products, which need firm commercial packaging and a clear expiry date; Madinah and Makkah send many family cartons, gifts, perfumes and carpets. All are consolidated in Jeddah before sailing.
Where in Saudi Arabia do we collect shipments for Libya?
We collect Libya-bound shipments from every city in the Kingdom and consolidate them in Jeddah, the port closest to the Suez Canal. Several cities have a dedicated Libya guide with local districts and routes: Shipping Company from Jeddah to Libya, Shipping Company from Riyadh to Libya, Shipping Company from Makkah to Libya and Shipping Company from Madinah to Libya.
| Pickup city | To Jeddah port | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Jeddah | Same day | The closest consolidation point |
| Makkah and Taif | Same day to 1 day | Near-daily pickup |
| Madinah and Yanbu | 1 day | Depending on the container date |
| Riyadh and Al-Kharj | 1 to 2 days | Pickup from every Riyadh district |
| Dammam, Khobar and Al-Ahsa | 2 days | Or from Dammam port when a line is available |
| Qassim and Hail | 2 days | Buraidah, Unaizah, Ar Rass and Hail |
| Tabuk, Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan | 2 to 3 days | Weekly consolidation |
Steps to ship from Saudi Arabia to Libya
Shipping to Libya with us takes six clear steps:

- Send the details: type of shipment, quantity and Libyan city to 0560533140.
- Price and date: we choose the right unit (carton, kilo, cubic metre or container) and the container date.
- Pickup and packing: we collect from your door, pack, number and write the packing list.
- Export: FASAH declaration and trucking to Jeddah port.
- Sailing: we send the B/L number and expected arrival.
- Clearance and delivery: at the Libyan port, then delivery to the consignee.
Delivery in Libyan cities
We deliver door to door in Tripoli, Misrata, Benghazi and the coastal cities, and agree a suitable handover point in inland and southern cities. Cities near the ports receive within a day or two of clearance; the south needs extra days.

We contact the consignee in Libya before the vessel arrives, give an approximate delivery date and ask them to keep their phone on during clearance, as the broker may need a copy of their ID or a signature. For furniture we carry pieces inside and reassemble them; cartons and goods are handed over with the shipment list so the consignee can check them before signing.

Tips before shipping to Libya
What speeds up a Libya shipment most is an accurate description, matching papers and a ready consignee. Practical advice on this route:
- Describe each carton’s contents precisely; a vague description invites a full inspection.
- Keep commercial goods and personal items on separate lists.
- Check the car’s model year before shipping and ask about the limit at your arrival port.
- Ship perfumes and liquids by sea in tight packing, not by air.
- Insure high-value shipments and photograph goods before packing.
- Send the consignee a copy of the packing list and the B/L number before the vessel arrives.
