What does moving furniture from Madinah to Libya cost?
Furniture moving from Madinah to Libya starts from SAR 2,920 for a single bedroom, SAR 8,200 for a two-bedroom flat, SAR 695 for a fridge or washer on its own and SAR 92 per carton in a shared container. The final amount depends on volume, container type, the Libyan port and the distance from port to home.
Families returning to Libya with a whole home usually take a private container, loaded once and opened once. Someone sending a room or a few appliances pays only for the space used in a shared container, in exchange for a longer wait while it fills.
Most requested starting prices:

|---|---|---|
| Standard carton | Sealed, numbered goods in a shared container | 92 |

Which route does a shipment take from Madinah to Libya?
Two legs in sequence: by road from Madinah to Jeddah Islamic Port, then by sea through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean to a Libyan port. Misrata handles many of the containers, Benghazi serves the east, and Tripoli and Al Khums the west.
The shipping line picks the port by its schedule, and the container may call at a Mediterranean transshipment hub first, so we tell you the expected port at booking and confirm it once a vessel is assigned. For southern destinations such as Sabha, final delivery is by road from the nearest port.
Full road shipping to Libya is not a practical option for household goods from Madinah, given the distance and the number of borders, so sea is the standard route. Container details are on sea shipping.
How long does shipping from Madinah to Libya take?
Sea shipping usually needs 4 to 7 weeks door to door, split between the road leg to Jeddah, waiting for the vessel, the voyage, transshipment, clearance at the Libyan port and delivery.
| Stage | What happens | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Packing and loading | At your home in Madinah | One to two days |
| To Jeddah port | About 420 km by road, container handed in | One to two days |
| Waiting and sailing | Red Sea, Suez, Mediterranean | Two to four weeks |
| Clearance and delivery | Misrata, Benghazi or Tripoli, then your home | About a week |
The most variable parts are the wait for a vessel and clearance in Libya, so book early before your travel date and have someone in Libya to follow up if you will not be there.

Car shipping from Madinah to Libya: container or RoRo?
Cars go by sea in one of two ways: inside a closed container, strapped down, or on a RoRo vessel onto which the car is driven and lashed. A container shields the car from salt and dust and fits two cars in a 40 ft unit; RoRo is simpler and quicker to load, but the car is driven aboard uncovered.
On RoRo the car is not covered, because a port driver drives it up the ramp, and it must be empty of personal belongings. In a container it can wear a protective cover. Either way you need the registration, proof of ownership and a no-objection letter from any lender, and the car is photographed before handover to the port.
Libya applies conditions on the age and specification of imported cars, and procedures can differ between ports, so confirm the accepted year of manufacture with the clearing office at the arrival port before booking. More on car shipping.

Air freight from Madinah to Libya
Air freight suits clothes, documents, small devices and what you need in your first days, usually arriving in about a week depending on available flights and clearance. Direct flights are limited, so a parcel may route through an intermediate airport.
The pricing rule: length × width × height in cm, divided by 6000, gives volumetric weight, and you are charged the higher of that and the scale weight. A 55 × 45 × 40 cm carton, for example, is 16.5 kg volumetric. So fly only the small essentials and put the rest in the container. Details on air shipping.
Packing household furniture for the sea trip to Libya
Furniture for Libya needs layers that resist moisture and rubbing for weeks. We dismantle large pieces, wrap wood in blankets with heavy film over them, put glass and mirrors in corrugated board or wooden crates, and number every item on the list.
Appliances are emptied, cleaned and left to dry completely, because one drop of water in a fridge becomes a smell and mould after weeks at sea. Air conditioners have their gas recovered before removal. Rugs are rolled, mattresses bagged, sofas filmed then boarded at the edges. Inside the container we add moisture absorbers, stack heavy items low and strap the load.

🧊 Fridge and washer
Emptied and fully dried before wrapping to prevent mould

📦 In the container

Kitchens and air conditioners
Kitchen cabinets are dismantled and numbered in order if they will fit the new kitchen in Libya, with marble tops wrapped separately. For an AC that is many years old, compare the cost of moving and reinstalling it with buying new before putting it in the container.
Documents and clearance at Libyan ports
The basic papers are a copy of the owner’s passport, a detailed packing list, a bill of lading in the name of the recipient in Libya, and the recipient’s ID if they are not the owner. Commercial shipments need an invoice, certificate of origin and a registered importer.
Clearance at the Libyan port is usually handled by a local clearing office that manages inspection, payment of fees and release of the container, so make sure you or your recipient have a known clearing agent at the arrival port before the vessel arrives, to avoid port storage charges piling up.
Do not delay collecting the container
Every day the container stays at the Libyan port beyond the free period adds storage charges. Have the clearing agent and papers ready before the vessel arrives, not after.
What cannot be shipped to Libya?
Alcohol, pork products, narcotics, weapons and ammunition cannot be shipped to Libya, and flammables, gas bottles, fuel and damaged batteries must not go in the container. Medicines go in personal quantities with a prescription, and large numbers of new appliances are treated as goods requiring invoices.
Commercial cargo from Madinah to Libya
Trade goods travel by sea in a private or shared container with a commercial invoice, certificate of origin and bill of lading, and need a registered Libyan importer. Dates, perfumes and clothing are frequent, each with its own entry requirements.
Delivery in Libya, insurance and storage
After clearance the container is taken from the port to your address, unloaded, cartons counted against the list, and furniture assembled if you wish. Check items during unloading and photograph any concern before the team leaves.
Marine insurance is a sensible choice on a trip this long, with the value set at booking. If you travel before your Libyan home is ready, your furniture can wait in furniture storage in Madinah and ship at the right time.
Cities we deliver to in Libya
We deliver from Madinah to Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata, Al Khums, Zawiya, Zliten, Tobruk, Al Bayda, Sabha and other Libyan cities. Western destinations usually arrive via Tripoli, Al Khums or Misrata, eastern ones via Benghazi.

Collection areas in Madinah
We collect throughout Madinah, from Al Harrah Al Sharqiyah, Quba, Al Aziziyah, Al Awali, Al Khalidiyah, Sultanah, Al Difa, Al Anabis, Al Jurf and Shoran, and from the governorates of Al Mahd, Badr, Yanbu, AlUla, Khaybar and Al Hinakiyah. If the street cannot take the container, a small truck shuttles your goods to it.
How much does a container hold? Estimating your furniture
A 20 ft container holds about 33 cubic metres, usually enough for a two- or three-bedroom flat, and a 40 ft container about 67 cubic metres for villas and bulky furniture. For comparison, a single bedroom takes 6 to 9 cubic metres, a master bedroom 10 to 14 and a full majlis 5 to 8. If you have a home’s furniture and a car, a 40 ft container may take both, saving a separate car shipment; we work it out once we know the volume and the car.
What raises or lowers the price to Libya?
Large volume, wooden crates for chandeliers and mirrors, delivery to cities far from the port such as Sabha or Tobruk, and port storage charges if collection is late all raise it. Sorting before booking, booking early, joining a shared container for small loads and lining up the clearing office before the vessel arrives all lower it.
Before the loading team arrives
- Empty the fridge and freezer two days ahead and leave them open to dry.
- Keep original documents and gold in a bag that travels with you.
- Mark the pieces that are not being shipped.
- Tell us if the street is too narrow for the container to stand.
- Have the Libyan recipient’s name, number and clearing office ready.
Will your Saudi appliances work in Libya?
Most modern household appliances shipped from Madinah work in Libya without trouble, but there is a difference many people miss: Saudi mains power runs at 60 Hz and Libya’s at 50 Hz, at a similar voltage of around 230 V. Electronics such as TVs, computers and phone chargers are usually labelled 50/60 Hz and are unaffected. Some motor-driven devices, such as certain air conditioners, pumps and older electric clocks, may be built for one frequency only. Check the rating plate on the back before shipping; if it says 60 Hz only, ask a technician whether it is worth shipping or whether buying a replacement in Libya costs less.
