How far is Al-Kharj from Riyadh and how long does a move take?

Al-Kharj lies south-east of Riyadh, about 80 km away, linked by a direct expressway that a loaded truck covers in an hour to an hour and a quarter. That makes this one of the shortest intercity furniture routes, closer to a move within one city in its planning and pace.

A medium flat usually moves in three to five hours from the first piece dismantled to the last assembled. Large villas also take a single day but may need two trucks or two runs with the same truck, which is possible here because the distance is short, unlike long routes where a second run is out of the question.

The table shows the approximate total time for each home size, from the start of dismantling in Riyadh to the end of assembly in Al-Kharj.

What does moving furniture from Riyadh to Al-Kharj cost?

Moving furniture from Riyadh to Al-Kharj starts from SAR 460 for a studio or one-bedroom flat, SAR 740 for a three-bedroom flat and SAR 1,480 for a two-floor villa. The price covers loading, transport and unloading, with dismantling and assembly, full wrapping or a lift added as you request.

Because the road is short, most of the cost is labour and truck size rather than fuel. The clearest ways to lower the price are packing small boxes yourself, being precise about which pieces need dismantling and telling us in advance about floors and lifts at both homes.

Is an open dyna enough for such a short route?

We hear this question often, and the honest answer is: sometimes, for a few sturdy items on a calm day, but not for a whole home. Even over eighty kilometres, highway dust and midday sun are enough to ruin a fabric sofa or mattress, and wind can lift covers off an open load. An open dyna also gives no protection if moving day turns out rainy.

So for homes we use closed trucks and suggest an open dyna only for specific things like garden tools, plastic water tanks and simple farm equipment that dust does not harm. If you have a mix, we arrange a closed truck for the furniture and put the sturdy items at the back.

🚚 Small closed truck

For a studio, a one-bedroom flat or a student’s belongings.

🚛 Medium closed truck

For a three-bedroom family flat.

🏗️ Large truck or two runs

For villas and homes with several floors and big majlis sets.

🛻 Open dyna

Only for farm tools and sturdy equipment, never furniture.

Why do so many people move between Riyadh and Al-Kharj?

Al-Kharj is a large city close to the capital, with lower housing costs and usually more spacious homes. It is chosen by employees working in south Riyadh or in Al-Kharj itself, and by families who want a house with a yard instead of a flat in a block. It is also home to personnel of the air base at Al-Kharj and to students and staff of Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University.

Their needs differ: a family moves a whole home with rooms and majlis seating, a student needs a small move, and military personnel may live in compounds with their own entry rules, which we confirm on booking day. Tell us what kind of housing you are moving to so we can plan for it.

Steps for a same-day Riyadh to Al-Kharj move

  1. Get in touch with both districts, furniture photos and the floor.
  2. We set the price, truck size and crew and agree a start time.
  3. Dismantling, wrapping and loading in Riyadh with parts numbered.
  4. Roughly an hour on the Kharj expressway.
  5. Unloading and assembly in Al-Kharj, checking the items with you before the crew leaves.

If you want everything done before noon, start early: loading at first light means reaching Al-Kharj before the worst of the heat, with most flats assembled before mid-afternoon.

How do we prepare furniture for a short road?

A short road does not mean skimping on wrapping. True, the load spends only an hour in the truck, but damage usually happens during carrying on stairs, loading and unloading, not on the road. So we wrap scratch-prone surfaces, guard corners and secure the load just as on long routes, sometimes with lighter layers.

  • Sofas and mattresses in dust-proof bags.
  • Cardboard corner guards on tables and wardrobes.
  • Double cardboard for screens and mirrors.
  • Boxes labelled by room.
  • Screws bagged and taped to their pieces.

Moving furniture to Al-Kharj farms and rest houses

Al-Kharj is a well-known farming area, and many homes and rest houses sit inside farms on the city’s edge or along the roads towards Al Dilam. Dirt tracks may not suit a large truck, especially after rain, so we ask for the farm location and a photo of the track and entrance before the date and choose the right truck.

We also move from farms to town and back: rest-house furniture, appliances and ACs, or simple farm tools alongside the furniture. Heavy or sharp tools go in a separate part of the truck so they never touch the furniture.

Moving newlyweds’ furniture and new purchases to Al-Kharj

A frequent request on this route is furniture for a newlywed couple’s home: many buy bedrooms, majlis sets and appliances from Riyadh showrooms for the wider choice, then need them moved and assembled in their Al-Kharj home. We collect the pieces from the showroom after checking them against the invoice, add protection over the factory packing and assemble them so the home is ready before moving day. If the pieces come from several showrooms, we collect them in one trip in an agreed order.

Which Riyadh districts do we move from?

We collect from every Riyadh district. Closest to the Kharj road are southern and eastern districts such as Al Aziziyah, Al Shifa, Al Dar Al Baida, Al Mansuriyah, Al Sulay and Al Naseem, from which the drive starts within minutes. From northern districts like Al Malqa, Al Narjis and Al Yasmin, reaching the Kharj road takes longer at peak hours, so we start earlier.

If you have another move inside Riyadh the same week, it can be arranged with our Riyadh furniture moving service.

Which Al-Kharj districts do we deliver to?

We deliver across Al-Kharj, including Al Saadah, Al Danah, Al Salam, Al Aziziyah, Al Khuzama, Al Muntazah, Al Rawdah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Muhammadiyah, Al Yarmuk, Al Faisaliyah, Al Nahdah, Al Andalus, Al Nuzha, Al Rashidiyah and Al Hadabah, to the Al Sih central area, to Al Dilam governorate and to the surrounding farms.

Once settled, see our Al-Kharj furniture moving service for moves within the city, and our small moves page for a few items or a single piece.

Moving large appliances and water tanks

Ground-floor homes in Al-Kharj often have large items rarely found in Riyadh flats: extra fridges and freezers in the storeroom, washers and dryers, plastic roof or ground water tanks, and small generators on farms. These are heavy or bulky, and we need to know about them in advance to bring enough workers and the right straps.

Freezers are emptied and switched off a full day before, washers are drained and their drums secured, and water tanks are emptied completely and carried at the back of the truck or in a separate dyna if large. Tank pipes and fittings are only removed by agreement, and reconnecting them in the new home is left to a plumber.

Rain and dust: when do we reschedule?

The area between Riyadh and Al-Kharj is dry most of the year, but there are days of heavy dust or downpours that turn farm tracks to mud. On such days we may suggest postponing by a day, or at least postponing the part that needs a dirt track. The reason is simple: a truck stuck in mud or furniture soaked during unloading is far worse than a one-day delay.

If postponing is not possible, we add wrapping layers to sofas and mattresses, use waterproof covers when carrying pieces from truck to door, and lay protection in the corridors so mud does not enter the new home.

Moves for students and university staff

Many students and staff of Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University live in Al-Kharj during term and return to Riyadh in holidays, so they need a small move at the start and end of the year: a bed, desk, small fridge and boxes of books and clothes. These moves fit a small closed truck and finish in a few hours.

Dismantling, assembly and air conditioners

Bedrooms and large wardrobes are dismantled and numbered by a carpenter in Riyadh, then assembled in Al-Kharj the same day. As the distance is short, the same carpenter usually dismantles and assembles, which reduces mistakes and speeds up assembly. The price for this is set at the survey based on the number of rooms and how complex the pieces are.

ACs are removed and wrapped in Riyadh, and can be fitted in Al-Kharj the same day if the new home’s connections are ready. Tell us in advance so the AC technician comes with the crew.

Is moving Riyadh to Al-Kharj different from the reverse?

Same road, same distance, but the arrangements differ a little. Riyadh has more blocks, flats and lifts, while Al-Kharj has more ground-floor houses and villas. So loading in Riyadh tends to take longer if the home is in a block, and unloading in Al-Kharj is quicker if the house is at ground level. The reverse applies when moving from an Al-Kharj villa to a Riyadh flat.

Temporary storage and cover

If the new Al-Kharj home is still being finished or has not been handed over, we keep the furniture in our locked furniture storage warehouse and deliver it when ready. Furniture cover is available as an optional extra priced on the furniture value, requested before moving day.

Every move comes with a list of pieces and boxes that we sign with you and check in Al-Kharj before the crew leaves, even on a short move.
