How does a shipment get from Riyadh to Syria today?
A shipment from Riyadh reaches Syria by road through Jordan to the Nasib crossing, where the load is usually transferred to a Syrian truck that completes the journey, because Syrian border procedures usually require goods destined for Syria to be moved to a local truck, and these procedures can change from time to time. The sea alternative is a container to Latakia or Tartus, and the air alternative is parcels to Damascus airport.
This system is known as transfer or back-to-back loading: the truck arriving from Jordan pulls up beside a Syrian truck in the crossing yard, the load is moved from one to the other under customs supervision, and the Syrian truck continues with the same shipment papers. Arrangements between Syria and Jordan may allow conditional crossing without transfer for some trucks, and how this is applied changes from time to time. That is why we confirm before loading the method used in the week of your shipment, and we pack on the assumption that your goods may move between two trucks.
If someone tells you their Saudi truck will drive to your door in Homs or Aleppo with no transfer at all, ask exactly how. The usual rules do not allow that for goods destined for Syria except under specific arrangements.
Shipping prices from Riyadh to Syria
Shipping from Riyadh to Syria starts from SAR 1,670 for a bedroom, SAR 3,250 for a whole house, SAR 460 for a part load and SAR 140 for small parcels, with the final price set by volume, weight and the governorate of delivery. Shipments to Damascus, Daraa and Sweida cost less in inland transport than those to Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor or Hasakah, because the distance after Nasib is much longer.
Starting prices on the Riyadh to Syria route:
| Service | Details | Starts from (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Part load | A few items in a groupage shipment | 460 |
| Small parcels | Clothes, gifts and personal items | 140 |
| Documents | Envelope of papers | 110 |
| Electronics | Computer, screen, small devices | 555 |
| Bedroom | Packed, loaded and delivered | 1,670 |
| Whole house | Dismantling, packing, inventory and loading | 3,250 |
| Sedan | Shared car carrier | 2,790 |
| SUV | Carrier or container | 4,180 |
| Air freight | Per kg on the higher weight | 23 |
| Container to Latakia | 20 or 40 ft | Ask for the price by call or WhatsApp |
There is a cost on this route you will not find on Gulf routes: the transfer at Nasib needs labour and a Syrian truck, and the shipment may wait a day in the yard. We build that cost into the price from the start rather than having it demanded at the border. What lowers the price, on the other hand, is packing your belongings in sturdy cartons of similar sizes, because uniform cartons move between trucks faster and stack better.
How long does shipping from Riyadh to Syria take?
Road freight from Riyadh to Damascus usually takes 6 to 10 days, plus one to three days for the northern and eastern governorates; sea freight takes 3 to 5 weeks and air 2 to 5 days. What varies most is the wait at Nasib, which depends on the number of trucks in the yard and the availability of Syrian trucks for the transfer.
| Destination in Syria | Road, from loading day | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Daraa and Sweida | 6 to 8 days | Closest to Nasib |
| Damascus and countryside | 6 to 10 days | Most requested |
| Homs and Hama | 7 to 11 days | Via the Damascus–Homs highway |
| Aleppo and Idlib | 8 to 12 days | The longest haul in the west |
| Latakia and Tartus | 8 to 12 days by road | Sea is a good alternative |
| Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Hasakah | 9 to 13 days | Long inland transport |
These are approximate times based on the road, not a promise of a specific day. Holidays and seasons put pressure on the crossings, and missing paperwork stops a shipment. We send you an update when the truck leaves Al Haditha, when it reaches Nasib and when the Syrian truck leaves with the load, so you know where your belongings are at every stage.
Road freight from Riyadh to Syria through Jordan
The road from Riyadh to Syria starts on the northern highway to Al Jouf and Al Qurayyat, where the Al Haditha crossing is, then crosses Jordan from the Al Omari border centre to the Jaber border centre on the Jordan–Syria border, facing the Nasib crossing in Daraa governorate. This is the only practical overland artery between Saudi Arabia and Syria, and most road freight between the two passes along it.
At Al Haditha we present the export declaration and the transit bill through Jordan; at Jaber the truck is stamped out of Jordan; then at Nasib the papers go to Syrian customs and the transfer takes place if required. We make sure the inventory is written clearly in Arabic and that the recipient’s name and phone number in Syria are correct, because the Syrian truck needs them to finish the journey and deliver.
Pack heavy items such as the fridge and washing machine so they can be carried by hand or on a hand trolley, as the transfer in the yard is often done manually.
What happens to your shipment at Nasib?
At Nasib the shipment goes through four stages: the truck is registered in the yard, the declaration is submitted to Syrian customs, the load is inspected, and then it is transferred to the Syrian truck, which leaves with it. Our representative or agent follows these stages on your behalf and makes sure the cartons that left the first truck are the same ones that went into the second, by count and by number.
Inspection at Nasib may be by X-ray or by opening some cartons. A numbered carton whose contents the inspector can see on the list is opened and closed in minutes, while a carton marked “miscellaneous” may be emptied completely and hastily re-packed. So once again: a clear inventory saves you time and money and protects your belongings from random inspection.
Which method suits your shipment to Syria?
Road suits most household shipments heading to Damascus and the south, sea suits large homes, cars and coastal residents, and air suits small urgent items. A short comparison:
| Method | Suits | Handling en route |
|---|---|---|
| Road via Nasib | Rooms and medium homes, parcels, medium cargo | Usually a transfer at Nasib |
| Sea to the coast | Large homes, cars, commercial containers | No handling until the port |
| Air to Damascus | Medicines, documents, small devices | Airport handling only |
Remember that cost is not just the freight rate. Sea may look cheaper per cubic metre, but inland transport from Latakia to Damascus, for example, adds cost and time; road may look faster, but a day waiting at Nasib changes the sums. We price both routes to the door and send them together.
Sea freight from Saudi Arabia to Latakia and Tartus
Sea freight to Syria moves containers to the port of Latakia or Tartus. A shipping service linking Jeddah Islamic Port with Latakia has been launched, and sailings from Saudi ports with transshipment at hub ports are also available. Sea suits large homes, cars and commercial cargo, and especially those living on the coast or in Homs and Hama.
From Riyadh the container is trucked to Jeddah or Dammam depending on the available sailing, then shipped to the Syrian coast, cleared at the port and its contents delivered to your address. Once closed in Riyadh, the container stays shut until Syrian inspection, so nobody handles your goods on the way, and that is the biggest advantage of sea on this route. The trade-off is a longer transit tied to vessel schedules. Container sizes and loading are explained in our sea freight guide.
Air freight from Riyadh to Damascus
You need the plane for Syria when the item is small and urgent: prescribed medicine for a patient, official papers, a phone or laptop. Shipments reach Damascus International Airport in 2 to 5 days and starts from SAR 23 per kg, charged on the greater of real and volumetric weight, so a large light parcel may cost more than its weight suggests.
Volumetric weight equals the three dimensions in centimetres multiplied together and divided by 6,000. Example: a carton of 50 × 50 × 40 cm works out at roughly 16.7 kg; if it holds 8 kg of clothes, it is charged at 16.7 kg, about SAR 384 at the starting rate. Splitting the same clothes into two small, full cartons would bring the charge down considerably.

- Good for air: prescribed medicines, phones and laptops, documents, urgent clothing, gifts.
- Not accepted by air: loose batteries, gas, large amounts of perfume, aerosols, flammable liquids.
- Delivery: from the airport to your Damascus address, or collection by the recipient at the airport as arranged.
Car shipping from Riyadh to Syria
Car shipping from Riyadh to Syria starts from SAR 2,790 for a sedan on a shared carrier and from SAR 4,180 for SUVs. Cars go by road to Nasib and continue inside Syria under the transit system, or by sea in a container or on a RoRo vessel to Latakia or Tartus. We inspect and photograph the car before loading and record its condition and mileage.

A car that will be registered in Syria is subject to Syrian import conditions, including the accepted model year, specifications and fees, and these conditions can change from time to time. So we never book a car to Syria before checking with the clearing agent there that it is accepted by year and model, and before booking you will need the car’s registration, its title deed and proof of export from the Kingdom, with any traffic fines settled. Nothing personal may be left inside the car. How we secure and move cars is covered in our car shipping guide.
Moving furniture and household goods to Syria
We move household furniture from Riyadh to Syria with dismantling, packing, inventory and loading, and deliver it to your address in the governorate you are returning to. Many people moving homes on this route are families returning to Syria to settle, so we make sure pieces are packed to survive a transfer and that cartons are numbered and marked with the room name, so they are easy to unload even if you are not there.

If you are returning to Syria to settle, ask the clearing agent about any facilities available to returnees for personal effects and used furniture; decisions on this are issued and amended, and we prepare the inventory in the form the agent requires. As a rule, obviously used household items pass more easily than boxed new appliances.
Appliances and the power supply
Mains power in Syria is 220 volts at 50 hertz, while in Saudi Arabia it is 230 volts at 60 hertz, and appliances marked 50/60Hz work in both. As many Syrian homes rely on limited supply hours or solar panels and batteries, it may pay to ship energy-efficient appliances rather than large power-hungry ones.
Shipping commercial goods from Riyadh to Syria
We ship commercial goods from Riyadh to Syria as part loads or full trucks to Nasib, or in containers to Syrian ports, supported by the usual trade papers. As trade picks up, common cargo on this route includes canned food, building materials, household goods and spare parts.
Before shipping, a trader needs to confirm that the item may be imported into Syria and which approvals it requires, and that the importer in Syria is registered. We prepare the Saudi side of the paperwork and follow up with the agent on the Syrian side, but item-specific approvals are the importer’s responsibility.
Shipping solar panels and batteries to Syria
There is high demand for shipping solar panels and inverters to Syria. They can travel by road or sea as ordinary goods if packed well, because the panels are glass and break when their edges take pressure. We stand panels upright in crates or between timber boards and stack nothing on top of them.
Lithium batteries and large storage batteries, however, count as dangerous goods in transport. They are not accepted by air except under special conditions, and by road or sea they need a declaration and packing that meets dangerous-goods requirements. Never hide a battery inside furniture or cartons; if it turns up at inspection the whole shipment is stopped. Tell us the battery type and capacity before shipping and we will tell you whether and how it can be sent.
Documents needed to ship from Riyadh to Syria
For a personal shipment from Riyadh to Syria you need copies of your passport and iqama, a detailed inventory, and the recipient’s details and phone number in Syria. We handle the export declaration on FASAH and the transit papers through Jordan.
- Copy of the sender’s passport and iqama, or national ID.
- Inventory in Arabic with the number of cartons and types of appliances.
- Copy of the recipient’s Syrian ID or passport, address and phone.

Prohibited items when shipping to Syria
No shipment from Riyadh to Syria may include flammable or pressurised materials, weapons or parts, narcotics, medicines without prescription, perishable food, or anything banned by either country.

Collection across Riyadh for Syria shipments
Our crews collect in every part of Riyadh, including the older and commercial districts with many family homes and shops.
- Centre and old districts: Ad Dirah, Manfuhah, Utayqah, Al Jaradiyah, Al Khalidiyah, Al Murabba, Al Malaz.
- East: An Nahdah, Ar Rawabi, Al Andalus, King Faisal, As Salam, Ar Rayyan.
- North: Al Aqiq, As Sahafah, Al Yasmin, Al Malqa, An Narjis.
- South and west: Al Masani, Taibah, Ash Shifa, Al Aziziyah, As Suwaidi, Dhahrat Laban.
- Governorates: Al Kharj, Diriyah, Al Muzahimiyah, Ad Dawadmi, Afif.
In older districts such as Manfuhah and Ad Dirah the streets are narrow and buildings often have no lift, so we send a small truck to shuttle belongings to the large truck on the main road, and schedule loading early in the morning.

Insurance and storage before shipping to Syria
Insurance for a shipment to Syria is worth considering if you are sending new furniture or expensive appliances, because the transfer adds a handling stage. It is calculated as a percentage of the value you declare and covers damage and loss caused in transit. If your home in Syria is not ready, or you are waiting for the transit system to settle, you can leave your belongings packed in our Riyadh warehouse until the time comes.
Mistakes that delay shipments to Syria
- A switched-off recipient phone: the Syrian truck will not deliver without contact and may return the load to the warehouse.
- A vague address: give the neighbourhood and a well-known landmark, not just the city.
- Many new appliances: they can turn a personal shipment into a commercial one at customs.
- Weak cartons: used grocery boxes tear during the transfer; use proper moving cartons.
- Shipping a car before checking: a car Syrian rules do not accept stays at the port or crossing while fees pile up.
Tips before shipping from Riyadh to Syria
- Do not give your family a fixed arrival day; give them a range, as the crossing may add a day or two.
- Give a recipient number that is always answered, ideally two numbers, because the Syrian driver calls before arriving.
- Put first-days essentials in a small air parcel rather than waiting for them with the furniture.
- Do not put gold, cash or original documents in a road shipment.
- If your belongings are few and valuable, compare road and air before deciding.
If you also have goods heading to Jordan, the Riyadh to Jordan route follows the same road as far as Jaber, and the two shipments can be arranged together.
The road to Syria needs someone who knows its changing details. We follow them week by week so your belongings reach your home without surprises.
